Is the certificate and the free appraisal of premiumdomain.com for real?
Should I take it seriously? It seems to be the best free one around, but I would like some opinios of people who know it. Thanks!

PremiumDomains uses an algorythm in order to value domain names. The problem with the algorythm is because domain values are hinged on so many factors, more than whats included in their formula, it can never be considered 100% accurate. I personally use them to guage domain names I have an interest in registering (DomainScore.com). However, I do not take their valuation that my domain is worth x amount of moeny.

Be very careful, I recommend asking for an appraisal in the appraisal threads section so that people who sell domains on a daily basis can give you a good perspective.

No.

Well if it's free you get what you pay for ie meaningless appraisal. Even the paid appraisals are junk usually.

Obviously there are so many factors in the value of a domain name that an algorithm whatever sophisticated should not be expected to provide accurate answers. Domain appraisal is not an exact science.
There is nothing wrong about benchmarking domains, I do that but only as a guide: laying down the objective factors like keyword popularity, length, TLD etc.
Honestly the sales threads with 'Premium certified' in title kinda turn me off :yell:
A good domain speaks for itself. If you need to put forward such statements then most likely the domain is not that good :imho:

I have a similar vision sdsinc, but that was the first free one to ever come close to the market's reality, in my experience...so I was hoping to know other people's opinions about it...

I see when domain is good and when it is not. easily. its like diamond. it can be spoiled and it can be perfect. only man can evaluate true beauty.

They don't seem to take extension into consideration. Is Cars.ws or Cars.cc anywhere in value of Cars.com?

I'm a complete newbie learning every day, but PremiumDomains is an algorithm as stated. It can give you a ballpark of where your names are.

Just because it's not premium doesn't mean you can't make a good deal from your domains.

I sold polishplanet.com for $150 and it wasn't considered premium (not the craziest domain, but not too bad either).

...interesting point about the extension...but woudn't it happen because they appraise the name even more than the tld itself....?

Hey Archangel, thanks for the link....
But I still haven't taken a conclusion....
Something like leapfish for example is ridiculous and outdated....put youtube.com there and you'll get nothing.....
I wonder if premiumname.com is uptodate or it's just the same case....

Anytime. :)
It is all guesswork, to be honest. If you want a realistic idea, you need to consult a human. Scripts, no matter how advance, cannot pin a value on a domain. I would only use free scripts for amusement; if you want a realistic estimate, have an expert to assist you.

I've had leapfish.com appraise a LLL.mobi for $200+ but I had nameboy.com appraise the same at $19. Ugh...

Hello domain enthousiasts,

Let me explain you one of the way I use the service myself so you will better understand the value and limitations.

Let say I see a collection of domains for sale and I want to make an investment.
As allways the collection mix (rarely) very good, good or (mainly) garbage domains.

To sort all this, I cannot only act with my knowledge.
There is some niches I have a huge experience but most of the time I need to get metrics to really extract the best.
What may sometimes look likes catchy in fact has a poor/no value.
Remember that just adding a character, just putting a synonym and the domain value can be totally different.

So here 3 solutions:
a) Do it manually thanks to OVT, Google, checking similar domain sales ... (exactly LIKE YOU .. I am not ET).
b) Use our service.
c) Ask to peers in sites like this one.

The first option can takes a lot of time, and time is money.
The third option makes no sense for portfolios.

The second option is free/fast and has the advantage to give me these metrics I need. Plus it calculates me a domain scoring that also takes care of the readability and the TLD value.
So I get a domain score for each domain, it becomes easy to compare the domain collection.

Now like some members outline here the metrics are not all !!!
I share completly.

I will not "stupidely" buy ALL the domains having a descent score.
But you can be sure I will not buy the ones having low scores.

I have now in hand a restricted collection of domains with a global score outlining the quality of each one.
Now it's time to take a decision and there:
No program, no algo will take the decision for me!

I remove the ones having low scores.
Keep the ones having high scores.
And for the ones having a medium score I select the ones I think that should have more sale chances, or could be great for a site development or as a gateway according my experience.

...

Responding to specific questions:

- I remember we do not offer any appraisal service.
- Yes, TLD value is considered in the domain scoring.
- I do no like to judge peers, so no comments in Leapfish.

do you report your sales to dn journal

Great points...specially about making it into a tool more thn an appraiser....but for example...when we're talking about a fast decision...they take too much time (at least to me they did) to send you the appraisal...
But of course...maybe the ARE fast and I just wasn't very lucky with that......

We do not report sales to DNJournal for several reasons:
First, as I said to Ron, we purchase a lot of names for resell.
The last I want is buyers seen they are maybe paying n times more a name just purchased few weeks or months ago.
Second, except for our own names we do not act as a broker but as a service giving more sale exposure to listed premium names. The sale is closed by the owner or in the brokerage selling the name.

Today for example we sold a premium dot org for 100K.

But the demand use to be for dot com and more for expensive names.

...

Success victim...
We will try to improve soon the FAST parameter.

Nice reply. This should help many people. www.premiumdomain.com is still considerably new, I think, and any info the masses can learn about it up-front is helpful.
