Whale Watch

I just got back from a semi-vacation, and one of the things we did was a Whale Watch on Cape Cod. WOW -- what an AWESOME experience. To see such massive creatures right in front of you in their natural habitat is an experience not to be missed. We were very fortunate to be on THE tour that according to our tour guide was the best whale-watch all season. The whales showed off for us for a solid half hour and left us all in awe. My GF and I wanted to go out whale watching once but they didn't have enough people show up to go out that day.. have seen dolphins in the surf plenty of times tho. Really puts a different perspective on things when you see them first hand.

Believe me, the pics and vid don't do it justice. You're in the depths of the ocean, watching these fantastic animals frolic just a few feet from you. We watched mother whales teaching their calves through repetition. We watched them play and jump over one another. We watched as they slapped their enormous fins on the surface of the water in a rythmatic way, back and forth, communicating with one another. Breathtaking.

Spectacular pics. Here in Madeira Island they used to hunt whales until about 40 years ago. Now there are a few organized tours to watch golfins and mostly Sperm whales which is the most common species in this part of the world. The Sperm whale has a massive head that is about 1/3 the size of its body. Beautifull creatures. We also have a Whale Museum here.
