Hello All,

Just heard that a whale is swimming UP river in the River Thames, in the Westminster area (about 3 miles from my house).

That's amazing and never been heard of before!
There are some concerns about the whale, as they are usually found in schools, and of course, need salt water.
The tide turns in a couple of hours, and it's hoped the whale will just about turn, swim down to the estuary, a few miles away, and then out to sea.

There'll be people lined along the river's embankments to watch the whale's progress, because we're a nation of animal lovers.
They are even interrupting some radio programmes with updates.

There's actually 2 wales in the Thames at the moment, one is downstream.

Must be climatic changes.

they think it is possible the whale came in to find a place to die. The whale apparently seems very weak and is bleeding.

.....two whales?...first I've heard of this.......

...after the amazing "whale" story, reports are coming in that a man has been killed by something with eight legs that fell from a tree!
Dont know what it was, but I'll get back as soon as I know what it was....

.....it was a snooker table!

..the twenty foot norther bottlenose whale, whose normal habitat is the north atlantic, where it swims in depths of a thousand metres, travelled an incredible 40 miles up river.
Conservationists are concerned that if the whale does not return soon to the sea, it will die.
Thousands of people are lining the bridges and river banks to watch this incredible spectacle, with many trying to coax the whale downstream, and ensuring that it doesn get beached on the mudbanks.

As darkness fell last night, a team of divers were preparing to work through the night, in the hope of loading the whale onto an inflatable cradle, so it can be guided downstream to safety.

The 3 ton bottlenose - thought to be a young male - is obviously in distress, and experts fear that this could bring on a heart attack.
To make matters worse, the poor whale has an injury, and is leaving a trail of blood.
It is reckoned that it cannot last more than 36 hours in this condition.

the big whale is now on a barge being shipped out to the sea, what a strange weekend

I'm very saddened to see that he died. They are such amazing creatures, and we've only tapped the surface of their intelligence; their being.

It gives me some comfort to see people stepping up and trying to help him.

I believe the answers to many of life's most important questions are within our oceans, our jungles, our wildlife & nature. If we don't protect them, we are dooming ourselves as surely as we are dooming them.

Reminds me of the Cree Indian Prophecy

Only after the last tree has been cut down
Only after the last river has been poisoned
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

Atleast the people of london come together as one to help this whale and. . well it makes you smile. Very very sad though, the post mortem should show whether it was already ill or the rescue attempt killid it :'(
