Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I have created a website through a website host and downloaded phpbb2 through my cpanel. How can I link the forum to my website? And can the names be the same, or does the forum name/url need to be different than the website name?

Are you using cPanel? If you're using cPanel, create first a subdomain of your maindomain.com or a subdirectory of your maindomain.com, then install phpBB either in your subdomain or subdirectory. From your maindomain, create a url link that points to your forum site. You may check my signature for this format.

I have a site (I'm very much a newbie) with a Php forum. Accessing the forum is just www.domain.com/phpBB3

anyone know how I can change this?

If you have a portal on your site already, you can insert a link to your forum's index.php file
