rounders; style

From Wikipedia:
Rounders is a sport which originated in Ireland. A team consists of a maximum of 15 players and a minimum of 6 of whom no more than 9 may be on the field at one time. [1] The teams try to score points ("rounders") by completing a circuit of posts. The sport is very old and it has been documented as early as the seventeenth century. Baseball and softball evolved from rounders (see origins of baseball); the earliest literary mention of rounders calls the game "base-ball".

RE: Style...
if using style.tv (or similar), my interpretation would be that it would be ok as long as it didn't involve the field of fashion, beauty, home and entertaining; and entertainment services...
for example, style.tv could be used, and would be appropriate if used by combining television and referring to:
web design (style div, style sheets CSS),
writing styles (screen plays, shorts, movies)
etc...
again, that is MY interpretation...others?

Aaameretto,
The previous trademark would be in regards to StyleNetwork.TV. Is there any conflict there based on what you have read? I am assuming as long as it doesn't apply to any of the things in the trademark? Make sense?

Thanks,
Ammudamus

hmmm...

it really depends on exactly what you're trying to use and how you plan to use it... as you can imagine, TM infrigment is not black and white.
another example: court tv.
if someone wanted to publish a courtroom website on a .tv, they would have to use (examples) jury.tv, guilty.tv, innocent.tv, etc...
they could not use courtroom.tv, courthouse.tv, etc based on court tv's tm of the word "court" and court related tv programming.
however, if you had courthouse.tv and wanted to publish a site/show about Mr. Court and his family (not court room related) you should be ok. that doesn't meat court tv wouldn't try to claim tm infrigment, you just have to show a judge/panel that your intentions were true. this is often hard to do.
it's easier for a judge/panel to rule in your favor when you're talking about dictionary words. i remember reading about a dispute when a guy bought panavision.com and tried to convice a judge that since he was using the site to display photographs he took from an airplane that he wasn't infringing on Panavisions TM....
he lost.

Additional Thoughts

I'm with you. I just imagine style is such a generic term and so is network. Heck, there are even style networks in the networking side of the world. I like the suggestions of writing styles and also web development style. I am assuming it all depends on how clear I am. The funny thing is that www.stylenetwork.net is owned by www.babystyle.com and its about fashion. I wonder how she is still operating without infringment.

Time will tell, but I do appreciate the postings on trademarks. I think it's excellent and helps remove some of the black and white about it.
