WebNameSolution.com - Could be trouble?

I just got an email from a "company" called webnamesolution.com.

The email was basically SPAM to me as it had no contact info, just a cheesy sales pitch with a link to their shopping cart to buy a .COM domain (for which I own the .NET) for $50.00.

I checked the WHOIS and it said 'pending delete' so I thought I could not register it yet. However, GoDaddy let me register it. (So this whole time I'm thinking that you cannot reg a name until it has fully expired :| ).

I am guessing that he has sent this email to others (like the owners of the .INFO and the .US and so forth. My question is, if someone buys the domain from them, could there possibly be some trouble on my part given that I am NOW the owner of the domain?

BTW, the domain in the subject line is wrong. They are the singular, not the plural.

They get you to buy it from them and then they register it from GoDaddy...pretty clever.

Yup, but I wonder if they were the owner when it just expired. but I do not pay amembership to WHOIS.SC so I cannot see the history. Is there anyway I can find this info for free?

I also wonder if I could be in the middle of a battle if they end up selling it to someone even though I jsut registered it.

You have nothing to worry about. This is just a marketing gimmic by webnamesolutions.com trying to sell you unregistered domains. I got one of these letters a week or two ago about a .com name where I owned the .org. I was considering paying the $50 until I checked and saw it wasn't even registered.

You registered the domain legimatately, you are the real owner. And it's not likely the domain was in PendingDelete when you registered, it was probably released earlier that day or the day before. Depending on where you check, the WHOIS details aren't always up to the minute on deleting domains.

OK. So does anyone know of amore reliable place to check domain availability besides whois.net and whois.sc?

whois.sc is excellent for researching names and viewing whois. The domain deletion status is not always up to the minute though.

The best place to go for status is direct to the registry at www.internic.net , and then to the registrar where the domain is registrered.
