Hi

We currently have our eye on a domain name that is in redemtion/deletion period and we have signed up at a couple places in attempt to snap this domain up. Today we got an interestesting email from a company that is offering the domain name for sale.

They are:
webnamesolution.com

Does any one know if these guys are legit? Basically I am wondering how they can offer me the domain when it is in redemtion with networksolutions.

thanks for the input...

Sounds like a scam. If you were willing to pay enough, they would probably backorder it for you and keep the profit left over after backordering fees. They are probably trying to take advantage of the fact that most people do not understand the backorder process. How did they know you wanted it? Is it the .com version of a name you have in .net? My advice is to ignore them completely.

These guys have sent me several e-mails wanting to sell me domains, usually the dot com version of a domain I already own that's not the com extension....or is plural/singular. Somehow they scan or track the whois (I think0 for owners of the domains with different extensions, and then e-mail an offer for the domain they own...pretty effective.

From what I can tell, they are based in Canada and seem legit, but who knows. They have some pretty darn good prices at times. I'll go back and check if the domains they offered me were owned by them.

Added: The last domain they offered me was clickamate.com for $199 on June 22. Looks like that domain sold on June 25, but it's hidden.

Another domain they offered me, was not registered...at least not today...I just took it. Don't know if it dropped or what.

So it's hard to tell about these guys. Maybe someone else has experience with them.

Ya, I was wondering how they knew I was watching this domain name but it now makes sense. I own the .net of this domain name so your theory is probably right.

I just emailed them and asked if I paid this fee (which is 199.95) would I get this domain name right away and if they say a date after the domain name expires then I know your theory is right.

thanks guys for the insight.

I think I heard about them before ... they try to snap an expiring domain (usually the .com of a .net) and sell it for a profit ...

be careful , if they are not completely honest , they might answer to your question that you will get it immediately and then delay (eg. by not answering emails) until they snap it ... if they own it right now and you want it it might be a good purchase depending on the name ... alternatively you might be able to snap it yourself for cheaper ... again it would depend on the name ... be careful , if you show much interest to them for the domain and it ends up in an auction you might end up bidding against them and finally pay a higher price either by winning it for a higher price or by paying them for their extra costs (I think their emails are a little ambigious regarding the exact final price , but I am not sure) ...

It's a big scam, they offered me 50.com for $199.95 but obviously they don't own it, they collect credit card numbers in my opinion :)

The interesting part is I already own the name. Not the .net version, but the exact same .com name they are trying to sell me. I went to their site and saw my name there as well. I guess we all already knew that they were a scam site, but it is interesting that they would try to sell me one of my own names.

Maybe someone should send them an email offering to sell them webnamesolution.com for only $199.95 ;)
