As a newbie with limited technical skills, I need help in getting a basic site up and running fast. I will have a lot of questions, so I need a provider than has excellent customer support. I am willing to pay more to get good support.

Thanks for your input!

Did you get a chance to look at the offer section? If you can search the forum, you will be able to see a lot of hosts with a very decent support team guaranteeing good response times.
May be you can try contacting them after you make a list so that you can be sure how good they are.

The Offers section here and Webhostingtalk.com section might be the places to go to.
You may alternatively read threads here and see what hosts are discussed and recommended: dreamhost.com, polurnet.com, webhostingbuzz.com and others.
Good luck!

Can you provide a domain name you have hosted with them?

As for web hosts, look in the offers section, ask for advice on particular hosts here first before choosing though. Doing research before going with a host is essential if you want to be sure not to have a bad time.

Hello heel2005 make sure that when you choose a host, you get to talk with them before you purchase webhosting. Make sure to time there responses and what there responses are, look up on the internet something to ask them to test there support skills possibly. if your that needy on support be sure to test them.

Start with surfing 3-5 options you find in this forum, make some test calls and/or emails to their support.

What's your requirements on space and BW? I would suggest you to search the forum make a list of hosts that will suit to your requirements. Narrow down the list considering factors like uptime statistics, response times, level of technical support etc.
You can search the forum for their reviews and this will also help you to narrow the list.

I think that it is impossible to find ideal web hosting for everyone. I have to say that all of as has or had experience with different companies. On my experience I can recomend you have a look at Ahosting.biz. I enjoed their service and support.
Also you have to look for some testimonials from real customers. That's help.

If support is your priority, look for hosts with established reputations and multiple forms of support, out of the hosts recommended here I would pick out ahosting.biz with ticket system support, FAQ, community forum, Flash tutorials and a2hosting.com with email, phone, online knowledge base, and real-time chat. Both companies have been in the hosting industry for about 4 years.

I've had a good experience with hostgator for the last 6 or so months.

I'd add to these companies Webhostingbuzz.com as they have quality support (live chat, tutorials, helpdesk and forums).

To get quality host's support, make sure a host offers multiple ways of support plus tuts, also inquire about max and min response time. Is phone support the point for you? Then look for somebody with free toll phone line.
Reading testimonials both negative and positive is important.
If there's a community forum offered by the host, visiting it may be useful.
There are good recommendations made here in the thread, what I really like Webhostingbuzz.com offers, as they offer free domains for life, but they have some differences in the number of domains allowed to host on the account.
