I would honestly be extremely surprised if this thread is even still active after a year. There are even proven niches with showcase threads that go quiet for a few days. There probably won't be much to check on after a year, especially if web3 (an actual industry niche) domain sales pick up - which I am also skeptical of, but far less than web5.

So if someone creates a project based solely on Tezos, and then afterwards based on Sol, and then based on Eth, we're looking at Web6, Web7, Web8 etc etc?

Sorry to break it to you, this is all Web3. Just different components, subsections perhaps, of it. Blockchain is blockchain. Give me a new platform than this, with a totally new concept of accessing it, then call it the next version of the Web.

As with new gTLDs introduced years ago, they did not change anything as to how ICANN domains are used or accessed, they introduced new TLD options on the same platform.

We've barely even scratched the surface of Web3 and, though exciting, adoption leaves much to be desired as of yet, let alone projects piggybacking off of it and renaming as an all-new web.

I suppose this was just an exercise in brand attraction?

BREAKING (sooner than I expected): the Decentralized Identifiers (DID) specification has been advanced as a W3C Recommendation over the objections of Big Tech companies who attempted to block it, most notably Google, Apple, and Mozilla. Here is Tim Burners Lee's decision:

Its a question, whether an alt coin network will be used (like eth, ada, sol) or btc - which is essentially web5.

My bet is it will be btc.

As too much speaks for it, espec. the dec'd approach via Proof of Work.
None of the alt-coins is giving any characteristics that come close to btc in this point.

Of course this is just something for people, who actually understand the tech that lays behind it.

So its hard to argue with people, to whom ethereum is the same as cardano as solana.

web5 (btc) has a much better dec'd approach, while these listed alt-coins not.

The community will come to decide, and as the community is foremost interested in decentralization and disruption, I have no doubt that it will decide for web5.

We'll see...
