Shill Bidding is 90% of the game! Whether you like it or not, thats a 100% true.. you can pay all the money in the world to upgrade the listing fees and have a good domain, yet realize nothing! Before typing to defend without reasoning :

If you own a single word domain that is worth 100K+ appraisal, then you are safe
IF you are selling a domain that is worthy like 10K retail, then this is the worst spot!!! Shill bidders of similar names will simply get their listings topping yours in the search...

Flippa are NOT AT ALL into shill bidding themselves.. thats my 2 cents.. I just think that other shill bidders are the cause of all this!!! Unfortunately....

Wanna sell a domain, sell it to an end user instead! you will wait more, pay zero listing fees, and sell for a much higher price. Wanna sell a website, try flippa.

You can figure out who most bidders are by googling flippa.com and then that little sale amount next to their name.

For example:

Flippa.com $11.6k

Then it's possible to figure out who is shilling and who is making legitimate purchases by looking at their history. Of course if they are New, you can't come to any conclusion.

I'm still very high on flippa as a platform and I think with time they will weed these problems out.

I think they also need better filtering for the domain section to lead to better discovery. I was browsing last night and it's just too overwhelming right now.

I don't have any firsthand knowledge of shilling on there.

As far as 100k VS 10k names on there, one thing you need to remember is that most active and high priced auctions are due to a lot of outbound marketing, driving traffic to their Flippa listings. You'll see that they are using a 30 day auction and spending that month on marketing the listing to bring in buyers to create a bidding war. Sometimes I wonder if these names would do better if they were listed on eBay, since a lot of end users have never even heard of Flippa, but they go to the site and sign up. If it was on eBay, they would instantly know it's a real marketplace.

I think Kevin Fink would dispute that 90% of bids are shill bids on Flippa.

In fact, I would say that Flippa is cracking down hard on shill bidding.
