When the word "war hero" is bandied about so easily (especially during election time), I'm inclined to be reminded of Alvin York and Audie Murphy.

I don't glorify war or violence but I grew up idolizing the bravery of both these guys:

Sargeant Alvin C. York

After his platoon suffered heavy casualties and 3 other noncommissioned officers had become casualties, Cpl. York assumed command. Fearlessly leading 7 men, he charged with great daring a machine gun nest which was pouring deadly and incessant fire upon his platoon. In this heroic feat the machine gun nest was taken, together with 4 officers and 128 men and several guns.

Audie Murphy

In 27 months of combat action in World War II, Murphy became the most decorated United States combat soldier in United States military history. He received the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military's highest award for valor, along with 32 additional U.S. medals, five from France, and one from Belgium.

Say what you really mean Dave .... Yes Audie Murphy and Alvin York were American War Heroes. BUT - that isn't your point is it ? It's really another Silly Liberal jab at John McCain isn't it ?

John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona and presumptive Republican Party nominee for President of the United States in the upcoming 2008 election.

Both McCain's grandfather and father were admirals in the United States Navy. McCain graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1958 and became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he nearly lost his life in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. Later that year while on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese. He was held from 1967 to 1973, experiencing episodes of torture and refusing an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer; his war wounds would leave him with lifelong physical limitations.

This what you refuse to call a "War Hero" ? Perhaps you'll allow me to lock you in a septic tank (POW's were in the same +/-) and let me torture the hell out of you for a year or two Dave ?

While I've pretty much tried to stop worrying about Democrat vs. Republican over the past decade (They're all crooks and liars) ... I just can't get over the extent some liberals will go to tarnish a True American ... People like you actually still think our Military had a choice when it came to Vietnam and now Iraq/Afghanistan , But TRUE Americans had and have no choice. You fight when called upon or you're a coward and traitor Dave .... No choice there.

Don't get me wrong , I'm not a fan of the current wars myself. But even though I do not support those wars - I do and will always Support our troops (Past and Present). They are all True Americans and War Heroes !

Once again - I still think Political threads have no place in this forum ... But some comments made by others are beyond my ability to stay out of such threads ...

As General Wesley Clark recently said on Face The Nation, "riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is not a qualification for president".. I don't like to see someone riding to the White House on anything but the issues. In my mind, we did have a choice regarding staying out of Vietnam (we went in to help the French) and Iraq btw.. I support the troops enough to want them home where they belong, Mark. If that makes me a traitor, so be it. One of the nice things about being an American is you have the right to dissent and disagree with policy.

It always amazes me that people will talk againstr their management at work but if you criticize the way the country is run, you're a traitor?? Not in my book, Bud.

As I've always said, I don't consider myself a liberal and I'm not an Obama lover but a McCain term is simply another 4 years of Bush and his failed policies IMO. I truly wish the Republican party would go back to it's roots and stick to it's original platform of smaller government.. instead we now see them encroaching into every aspect of American life and spending trillions in foreign lands when we could use that money at home.

Since his motto is "CHANGE" everything and everybody, How do you know that he won't change his mind when it comes time to pull troops out of Iraq ?
How can you trust a person who keeps saying that its time for change and so far he changed most of his friends, supporters, fellow democrats and plenty of other stuff.
