How do you guys pick domain names like, this is just an example, zxr3.com or something like that. Whats the logic behind it? or i see some numeric based domain names like 1234.com, again how do you guys decide on those numbers? is there a pattern or is it random? I would very much like to know.

Whats the logic behind it? .

there is no logic, it's all hype and speculation,

propagated by a frenzy and bandwagon jumping.

nobody wants to be last to get on,

so it self perpetuates

until all the hot air dissipates

:)

imo....

The Chinese have a thing for numeric domains, especially ones containing the number 8.

Last year, all of a sudden, the Chinese went crazy for these numbered domains.

Before that you could not give them away for free, now they sell for unbelievable prices.

They took a dip for a while earlier this year, but lately they have made a small comeback.

Yeah I realized that after watching an interview with Giuseppe Graziano on Domain Sherpa.

Basically, you need to get your exact GPS co-ordinates. Then take the last 4 digits and divide it by 42 (because according to Douglas Adams the answer to life is 42)

Then take that figure and seperate them into single digit numbers. Because you divided it with 42 (the answer to life) it should create a Fibonacci Sequence, then from there you will see a pattern. This pattern is the golden ratio. Once you have that then you will know what the meaning of these funny number combinations are. :) hehehe now now, don't go try that..cos I'm talking absolute [email protected]

There are lucky and unlucky numbers for the Chinese. 0, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are lucky numbers for different reasons. Like 2 is lucky because in the Chinese culture "good things come in pairs". They often name their products with the same word repeating for this reason. 3 sounds similar to birth, 5 is associated with the five elements in Chinese philosophy etc.

4 is unlucky because it resembles death. 5 can be lucky or unlucky depending on the situation. 5 has the negative meaning of "not" and considered unlucky unless used with another negative word, like when you write 54 this will have a meaning like "no death" so it becomes a lucky word. 7 also resembles the words "fool" and "mad" so although a lucky number, the Chinese may not like it if used in a wrong position.

Different combinations of these numbers suddenly have distinctive meanings because of the way they are pronounced in Chinese language. It's a complex system really because chinese characters correspond to numerals in the spoken language.

Chips be damned - I have a few "42" domains. I like short so I also have LLNN NNLL and some combos of three letter word + NN, I try to get repeaters, 77 44 11 etc then sequential 34 76 89 for ease of typing. If I am looking for LLLN sometimes the number I pick is the only available, sometimes it is a play on words - 2 meaning TO or TOO, 4 meaning FOR, and sometimes the number said aloud makes for nice alliteration

I am fascinated by the numbers and have gone back after 3N buyouts to see the order in which they were registered. The China 8 craze typically means 888 is first followed by two 8s and single 8s and without 0 and 4, but 0 is OK at the end

If you visit the NNN IO thread you can see how it went down for that extension, which is interesting because IO is a more expensive registration $25-35 so it took longer for the buyout https://www.namepros.com/threads/nnn-io-countdown-to-zero.893724/
