voip.tv expired and is currently on auction at TDNAM, current bid is $355. This means that the domain is non-premium. For me I can't really see much relation between .tv and voip, so how much do you think it would be sold for? I think it would go for atleast $1K.

previous related sales:
VOIP.de was sold for $26,038 in Feb 2005
VOIP.us was sold for $25,000 in May 2005
VOIP.ws was sold for $2,000 in Mar 2006

Very interesting but voip (voice over IP) has nothing to do with .tv, IMO.

Regardless of whether it has anything to do with tv or not, its still a great name, and one that might attract the attention of many companies that work in the VOIP market.

While I see your point, I still don't see how it fits the extension. This extension is one that definitely should focus on concepts that match the brand.

One of my favorite usages of .tv names is when companies use them on tv commercials. I think it grabs people's attention more. By your logic, degrees.tv wouldn't be a premium name. However, I'm sure the numerous "take at home degree" infomercials we see all the time would love how generic and applicable the name is. It's not a stretch to see voip companies advertising their services and providing this address for more information. This will also allow them to track the success of their commericals/ad campaign, since they can still keep their .com for their main site.

maybe soon we'll be able to "talk" to friends while watching tv
I think tv, computer, internet connection, cable, home phone, cell phone, and DVR will be serviced by the same company one day.

I agree with reg fee.
I think people are trying to get the name to sell to end users who are looking to advertise voip on TV.

Personally degrees.tv isn't that special of a name in my personal opinion. All because it is labeled as a premium, does not mean it is truly one. Hundreds of names labeled as premiums are complete jokes. However Degrees.tv is nowhere near being crap like a # of names are.

I see your point about it from an advertising purpose. However this still doesn't mean it is the best fit for the extension. The thought process of an everyday person seeing .tv is watching some sort of video content. I think that names should match the mindset of the regular consumer.

First thing I thought of when I had seen the domain, was Video Phone and video is like watching TV. It could be done with a cam, but you are on the phone on an IP.

I think we sometimes make the mistake of thinking our opinion matches that of the "everyday person." Since we are domainers, I think it is hard to make this determination, no matter how normal we are, since we will always have a bias.

Personally, I would think the everyday person would have no idea what .tv even meant. I have a hard time explaining to non-domainers that there are more extensions in the world than .com, .net, .org, and .edu. This is because those extensions have been used...extensively...and the ways they have been used have caused people to associate certain sites with them. For example, if .orgs were only used by online casinos and porn sites, people would think .org was made for taboo organizations. If this was the case, would humanrights.org be worthless just because it "didn't fit the extension" ?? As long as the developers built a site with relevant content, the extension would make sense.

That was my thought as well.
That's the same reason I got MoIP.tv a while ago
MoIP = Multimedia/Media over IP.. :)

I think like an everyday person & not as a "domainer". If you just mention tv to someone, they are going to automatically think some sort of visual content. This is a universal theme whether you are a domainer, stay at home mom, criminal, etc....

Yes, a site with relevant content can & does get produced on all sorts of extensions. However .tv is a rare extension in of itself. The extension is something that is universally recognized. I would rather have a name that matches that vision compared to one that does not.

One can argue that the time spent on making the name stand out with its extension could be better spent on other things involving a site.

I have enjoyed discussing this issue with you. I like that the .tv forum can have different opinions without it turning into a childish encounter.

Have a good day.

Just noticed that this auction has ended early.

Does anyone know what could be the reason as this was suppose to end tomorrow (Wednesday) evening?

Thanks :)

The last time I had an auction end early on Tdnam the previous registrant claimed it back! That's the problem with that system. The previous owner can watch the auction and if they see that there may be some value in the domain they are still within the time frame to reclaim.
