Virus?

I just installed Windows XP Pro, when ever I open my Outlook XP or Word XP it opens Windows Installer. Though when I hit cancel it runs fine.

Is this a virus? If so, how do I get rid of it?

most likely not, i get that happen every time I start my or open word but in my case it only started when I installed Norton Anti Virus

I had this problem a while back myself. I found the problem to be with WINXP updates and Norton updates. After service pack2 is installed and your norton programs auto updated install all new updates, if you do not go to the microsoft office page and download the new office update, wich you will need you serial number for, you will continue to have this problem. After the new update is installed, you will need to insert the office disk, and re-enter your serial number. After this you will not encounter this problem again, at least I have not any way. Hopefully this will help you. Good luck.

That's one of the reason why I hate automatic updates so much! Especially Messenger and WinXp updates. Grrrrr...

yeah i really hate the MSN Messenger auto update.. you have to download the update before you can sign in which really stinks!

service pack 2 created lots of problem for me so i have uninstalled iT!

i think your problem is windows itself!

I have that same "problem" occasionally.

I just ignore it; doesn't bother me!

I get the exact same thing, however I believe it only happens because I have multiple-users on this computer that use Microsoft Office applications. It may have to do with the registry settings if your not an Administrator I believe.

Are you using an account that has administration priveledges?

No its not a virus i also get that sometimes when i try to run microsoft word
