Hi

I recently bought a Dell 19 inch LCD monitor. I hooked it up to my older computer. The computer doesnt have a DVI hook up, so I have to use VGA. Anyways, the video quality is wayyy worse than with my old monitor. Is there a way to fix this? I would get a new graphics card, but mine is part of my motherboard. Any way to fix it without a new card or pc?

Thanks

Have you installed the monitor driver, sometimes Manufacturer(especially Dell) produce driver for their monitor to get the best results.

If your Monitor didn't come with a Driver CD, just google the modell #

Thank you. I will try this out.

Ok I did that. When I play DVD's they look amazing. Though Youtube.com looks like sh*t. Any ideas?

Ok

I bought a new card. An EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT. I installed it, and the video on youtube and other online files, is TERRIBLE. Anyone have an idea what to do?

Does it look ok in your old monitor?

It could be your monitor try it on another computer.

I had 3 bad HP monitors once and it drove me nuts!

Go into Control Panel, click on Display, and then Settings ... then make sure Color Quality says 32 bit ... if not, set it to that, and then click OK (important to click OK or the changes won't save).

If the color quality is already set to 32 bit (or at least 24 minimum), then try updating / refreshing Flash to the latest version.

Also, while in there, check that the display resolution matches the native resolution of the LCD monitor. Try different resolutions - in some instances a lower, non-native resolution may work better; experiment.

Lastly, if your old monitor was a CRT, that could explain part of the reason you're noticing reduced video quality - CRTs tend to mask video imperfections (ie. blockiness, color gradients, etc) much better than LCDs, which display very sharp edges and lack the color depth of CRTs (one of the dirty secrets of most consumer LCDs is they lack the color depth claimed on the box).

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that Youtube videos generally have terrible quality, so you might just be getting a clearer image of blurriness.
