I think it would be best that when the time comes, offer the winner of the prize an option if they want the gift or the cash value, but don't let this be known.. Gives you a little room to work with as the item may go down in value in time saving you money, and you don't have to worry about getting it now and a newer or something better coming out in the mean time..

The best way is to stick loads of adverts everywhere but no pop-ups and the profit could go in to the 'kitty' (money collection) and then offer random amounts of money to diffrent people like $1 to $10 and it is more likely that $1 comes up than $10.
If you say on the homepage something like 'Remember, our only funding is from those people who click on the adverts.' That way your not asking the person but making the person feel bad.

I bet no one understands one bit of that but ohh well, it is almost 03:00 and I have a headake so shut up! Off to bed for me!
