Hi everyone,

Who all have a vBulletin License?
I am thinking to get one but, I wonder if vBulletin is worth it?
( I did use phpBB and punbb )

I am also not so sure witch license to get.
The Owned License or the Leased License...

Is it also hard to put in mods?

I have one, I just don't have members access anymore because I wasn't running any sites that required a board, so I let the members access expire. It all depends on what you plan on using it for, but vB is generally gives off a more professional vibe, and I like a lot of the hacks they have. Also, they have a new Plugin feature (haven't tried it) which supposedly makes modding even easier. If I were you, I'd try the leased license for a year, and then if you want you can upgrade to the Owned license for the remainder of the Owned license price (another $85 I think, you don't have to pay the full $160 to upgrade after having the leased license for a year).

I've used several forum software (XMB, IPB, phpBB and so forth) but when I got down and serious I took the plunged and bought an owned vBulletin license. I found the software to be so robust and easy to mod/skin that I turned around and bought a second owned license. I never had any regrets about my purchases the only thing I thought was why didn't I take the plunge sooner.

Good luck with your decision.

There are tons of skins available for vBulletin (as a search at a forum like this would show). Some of the top names you'll come across are:

http://www.extremepixels.com
http://www.vbstyles.com

I'd recommend downloading the test file provided by vBulletin to make sure you meet the necessary system requirements.

vBulletin is definitely worth it, and as to your first question, I would definitely say get the owned license, as it is well worth it, and if you decide to sell the site, it normally helps increase your selling point by quite a bit over a leased license. I would say modding is just as easy, or easier than phpBB. I haven't really done much with the other forum software, so I can't compare them. There are a lot of skins available for vBulletin, just search on Google. It runs on both versions of PHP, 4 and 5...Hope this helps!

Unfortuantly you do. I renewed by license for my site and changed it to a owned one and it was at full price. You can upgrade your license to owned 30 days after purchase for $85.

Well lets give it a try for one year.
The installation was really good and everything is running fine.
But there are so many features I really want to know the basics before
I proceed with the MODS.

Ps. the forum I am making is about 24 = ) www.fox.com/24

Yourskinner CODES skins, they dont make them

http://www.vbulletinskinz.com
http://www.vbxtra.com
http://www.vbcore.com

are some off the top of my head that will make and code a skin for you. I will warn you though, vbulletinskinz is quite expensive, not sure about the others...Like I already recommended, I'd go to talkfreelance.com and ask there. You can get a skin there for cheap

If you don't want to spent a whole lot of money on this, then a custom skin probably isn't for you...even the cheapest custom skins go for $200. You could look into paid, shared skins, but they wont have the exact design you are looking for (24)....those skins run for $30 each, on average
