VB vs. PHPBB

I am running a new forum in PHPbb and I really find difficult working with mods... I haven't encounter any problem with VBscript before...

I am about to give-up using phpbb..

If you're not familiar with vB, its a great way to irritate a lot of users. My themes automatically uninstalled themselves, vbSEO gave me hell, it wasn't fun.

I agree that vb is most familiar but this cms is not free.
PHPBB is free . You can install phpbb from fantastico.

If you just want a forum to do what a forum does, use phpbb or another open source, free solution.

If you're looking for a forum to do more than what a standard forum should do, vBulletin is the best option. The statistics of successful communities that use it don't lie, and it has support.

I disagree. Having used SMF in the past, I can tell you it is mediocre at best. I've found MyBB to be more robust, secure, and easy to use than SMF.

I concur. I used to be a staunch SMF advocate but now I support MyBB.

never had a problem with vbulletin
SMF was a bit confusing and stupid...phpbb is easy but I always get spam with phpbb
I am going to try mybb for my next project

I am an admin on a phpBB forum and it does look a lot like vB. I can't say which is better, I like them both.

Iam in favor of VB
cos that's what I am using too.
i have not encountered any problem with it.
The mods are not as
difficult as PHPbb

im not a fan of either but as i know of there is a big difference with vb and phpbb in terms of user friendliness..
but you might want to check out myBB too, its almost the same as VB..

Im pretty sure there are mods out there for both of them.. both have strong community support.

VBSEO is not userfrienly and has a lot of programming glitches..

Funny how much difference of opinion there is For me, I absolutely hate vBulletin (I come here since they are good forums and all domain forums seem to use vB unfortunately) and love SMF (i.e. would choose SMF over vBulletin).

I have used SMF for years now and happy with it. VB is better but you got to pay for it.

in the end it always depends on your purpose i say try all of them and see what suites you the best..
im a fan of fluxbb and mybb.

Yeah its very hard to install mods in PhpBB. thats why more people look for vB! but thats a costly thing. i think you should be a license if you have that much money

vB is great,but it's really expensive.

phpBB is a great because it's free, and it's simple for me to use.
