I see that a variation of one of DNJournal's top selling domains of the week is available in the .com extension.

It's the only sensible variation that I can fine and has only a few hundred less google results then the one that sold for what it did.

Worth regging?

You may register it if you are sure that it would work.
However, LUCK plays a vital role after that.

You can give it a try at $7 :)

Hard so say without knowing the name, but sometimes plurality, past tense, or other variations have extreme value differences. Just off hand and not knowing the name, I'd think it should have some value over reg fee.

If you're having to ask then you most likely have already searched in a way that alerts a taster; register soon, or it will be by someone else ;)
No harm in trying the name, posting it in appraisals, and if everyone hates it then you can delete it from your moniker account for a quarter, no harm done.

As others have said, it's just a $7 gamble.

I will do it for you if you don't want to.

I like to think of it as supporting a fellow Nper who maybe doesn't have time to play.

It's a fault of mine.

I don't understand why everybody is so cautious. I think it's definitely, grab it immediately. Offer it to whoever bought the .net for twice as much as they paid for the .net. It'll probably do well parked if the .net has a website. Alternative stick it on Sedo/Afternic and wait for the offers to roll in. I don't really see a downside. It's a valuable domain.

$7 investment is a small amount to pay. When I first started I used to grabbed every domain I can think of and probably lost hundreds of dollars but I did registered a lot of good ones as well. In every business you gain some you lose some.

So, OP, did you get it or not?

If so, share?

If not, share the name? ;)

I will give an example, and it should give you an answer:

Once upon a time, BusinessChannel.tv sold for $10,000 on Afternic.com. I find BusinessChannels.tv and register it, as well as BusinessShow.tv and BusinessShows.tv. Still waiting for 1st offers on all of those and they're just about to expire.

Going off of an individual sale to register other names is shaky at best.

Your example Steve, precisely demonstrates your assertion. Just because the singular has traffic/value doesn't mean the plural has any value at all, and vice versa.

Oops. Just re-read the op's post. It is a variation. So it may or may not be worth something. Anyhow as others have said. $7 isn't much to find out.

Often True ~

Another point I'd like to make , If there is a Brand (TM) built upon the Domain that was Sold - and you obviously Reg'd your domain after them with no intention To Brand/Develop upon it ... You may be left holding a C&D or have to defend yourself via WIPO (Definitely a worse case Scenario) But worth considering IMO .... There are many companies out there now Protecting their Brands with LawSuits - It's not just "Well it's only 7$ - I'll just hand it over when approached" any longer .... It's "We're suing you for the Max amount under current cybersquatting laws - 100,000$ per domain".

I realize you said "variation" of the domain (I'm assuming this to mean plural/singular or Words re-arranged somewhat) - But Typos are Variations also and lose cases all the time. I also realize I'm taking this a bit off on a worse case tangent - Just some food for thought ;)
