Hi

Does it matter if your site is html 4.01 validated or Xhtml validated? I have a site that is 4.01 validated 'loose' but has errors on the Xhtml validation, does that matter much as long as one if validated?

Thanks

html 4.01 won't validate in xhtml.
You should have it validate in 4.01 if you declare it as a 4.01 document.

As long as you have the DOC TYPE defined in your HTML document as 4.01 then you are fine. If you set the DOC TYPE to xHTML though, then you have a "problem".

Yep, I know those things :)

My question was tho should I aim for it to be validated in xhtml or having it validated in html is fine enough?

I suppose it doesn't matter. xhtml is "what's in" but html 4.01 is fine. I personally use xhtml in all of my stuff but that's my preference.

If you use xhtml you have the comfort of knowing your site works in all the 1/2 decent browsers (No names mentioned :yell: )

I prefer XHTML because it displays how you want it to in most of the browsers.

HTML 4.01 is eventually going to be replaced with XHTML imo.

Yes I personally prefer XHTML as well... HTML Loose just allows more room for error and most browsers should display things relatively the same but then again, there are those "other" browsers that are very... "different".

Many popular websites, including ESPN.com, are not validated just because the validator does not recognize certain things. It's not THAT important to have it validated but it does show that you care about your site's code.

Don't forget the validator isn't perfect as well... some sites are valid according to the xhtml specs, it's just the validator sometimes picks up errors that really aren't.
