Using Illegal vBulletin (For only a while)

Hi guys, I have a question.

One of my good friends downloaded an illegal copy of vBulletin (shame on him). The thing is that he plans on buying a legal copy of vBulletin ASAP, when he gets the money. The only thing holding him back is he doesnt have the money now. He still wants to move to vBulletin, cause he hates SMF with a passion. He says he can't wait until his next paycheck (2 months from now).

What is the risk of him getting caught running an illegal vBulletin for 2 months? In 2 months, after he buys a vBulletin license, how easy is it to "legalize" his already installed copy of vBulletin without reinstalling everything?

Back when 3.0.0. was first released, i did do what you did. I was never caught. I used it for 3months, before removing it due to fear of getting caught. This was april-august 2005, before i joined namepros.

I will NEVER touch that again..

I personally would never take the risk, and your friend shouldn't take the risk either. Back then plagerism was easy, but now they have anti-steal crap embedded right into vBulletin. Use MyBB.
