Just wanted to let the good people at Namepros know (assuming you don't already) that Craigslist can be used to find good keywords that people are looking for. By going to the "wanted" section I have been finding and registering keywords based on what people want. Of course i do all necessary DD before actually regging the name (check search stats, TM issues etc etc). WHat I find most interesting is that most of the names I regged had decent exact search numbers and 4 of the names I bought back in October 09 are actually seeing a marked increase in exact search numbers and are showing life based on type in traffic. Bottom line: I think Craigslist "wanted" section ( as well as other parts of the site including "for sale" & "free") is a good place to find product/service related keywords that people are actually looking for and to find early trends based on what people are looking for. The best names are those keywords that show up in multiple municipalities obviously. Good luck!

Must also add that you can use Craigslist to find end users as well. The method for doing this should be obvious so i will spare the details. Just got back a "how much?" email from a potential end user I contacted yesterday. The key is to offer them a domain with keywords related to the product/service they are selling. Lots of niches on there. Good luck!

HI

I guess you can also do this with amazon and ebay... in the what is hot section... or in google trends.... or in the want to buy section in ebay..

I bet if you do a search in google for "what is hot" you will find many other places to use also.

Thx
Tom

LOL. Yeah you are right but those are all very well known. I was merely just pointing to the fact that Craigslist can be used in a similar way.

I'd say it works pretty good. I just regged cablesaw.com after going through my local craigslist wanted section. 40500 exact searches for a 2 word, 8 character .com and I'm pretty happy with it.

Good idea for market research; rep added.

It's also a good tool to analyse which geo demographics work; in fact you can get a feel for the potential real-world value of a geo name just by seeing how much "real-world" online activity there is by checking the local listings on sites such as CL. It's surprising how smaller (in terms of pure population) communities can have surprisingly active people online.
