Hi All,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether there is a possibility that Nominet could take a .org.uk domain from a company on the basis that they are using this domain for commercial purposes?
What are the specific rules surrounding .org.uk purchases? Is the domain to be used solely on a not-for-profit basis or is some commercial activity permitted?
I've had a look at the Nominet rules on this matter but I can't find anything conclusive, so far all I've managed to drag up is the following:
4.4 We do not impose restrictions on your status as applicant for the registration of a Domain Name in the following SLDs ("Open SLDs"):
1. 4.4.1 .co.uk; or
2. 4.4.2 .org.uk.
8.1 Introduction
These are the specific rules for the .org.uk SLD, administered directly by us. They form part of and, in the case of conflict, take precedence over the Rules.
8.2. SLD Charter
Registrants in .org.uk are intended to be not-for-profit or public service enterprises, and a Third Level Domain within this SLD is intended to be related to these enterprises and their activities. These may include, as non-exhaustive examples, charities, trades unions, political parties, community groups, educational councils, and professional institutions.
I think the key word to look at in the above is "intended".
Can you use these domains for commercial purposes without the risk of having the registration declared null and void?
Thanks for your help on this, it's been bugging me.
