i spend some time today, going through some 2nd and 3rd tier US geos.
pretty much everything was regged or, in a few cases, premium.

pretty amazing. you really have to get down to bedroom, suburban communities to find consistently unregged geos in the US.

this was not the case a few months ago.

definitely a positive trend for the extension.

in general, hand regs that I can get interested in are getting a lot harder to find. they are still out there, but I need to warp my brain a lot more. the obvious stuff is mostly picked off now...

the time for development is near my friends!

Geo's are some of the first domains to get taken. I see that Charlotte and Dallas are available though their price is under re-evaluation per enom.

correct. there are *some* unregged premiums, but as far as non-premiums, it is a pretty good sweep in the US and a pretty decent sweep in a lot of the rest of the world too...

Hopefully these sites will be developed & not become parked place like .com's. The more I read the .tv forum, the more I am excited about having a network of .tv's developed.

I hope so too.

There is much more pressure for .TVs to get developed because:

1) reg fees are 4 to 5x higher than .coms

2) type ins are much lower

so I think we will so more people forced to put in a little extra effort! :)

P.S. I need to clarify that the names mentioned above are .TV's. :)

That's one niche I really missed out on. I did pick up some Indiana cities via the '.in' extension, like Greenwood.in , but .tv would be so much more appropriate, IMO.

The last article in Dnjournal does a great job showing the impact a good geo domain has. It is an inspiring article to read.

I have been working on a solution for the last few months and will hopfully have something to share with geo owners in 2007. I will just say that there are some major players involved in this niche. I spoke to one CEO last week in a conference call and their will be a major release coming around March:)

What do you mean, a major release?

In the .tv namespace.

If you look closely at the geo .coms they are just filled with ads. They can get away with that because the type in traffic on a major geo .com is very high. Take a look at palmsprings.com it is mostly a lander filled with ads. Ads are not necessarily what a person is looking for but really has no choice. .TV offers a new model. In the future it will be a war between static versus dynamic interaction.

In the future it will be a war between static versus dynamic interaction.

That could be one war - the other war could be that the coms realise the game is up and develop interactive content for their sites too.

Then the war will be who has the most creativity, marketing skills, connections, software, time and money to make a real go of it and come out the winner.

The .com advantage only goes so far......word will spread around that these .TV extentions are really living up to their purpose. And have a whole lot more to offer than just video tours of the islands......that is just the beginning for geos.......there is so much more that can be done - it is mind boggling,......and like I said in another post - by the end of 2007, the .TV namespace will be a totally different landscape to the mostly barren one it is at present - it will be lush and pregant with interactive content!!!!!!!

Geo domains have been slow to take off, but people are starting to catch on.

I consider myself lucky to have got a lot of Indian cities while they were still available and those of you investing in regional .tvs are choosing wisely also.

A great interview with those guys from the DNJournal article:

palmsprings.com is a castello cities owned name, there is a lot more to that site than ads, trust me!

I agree completely about the diverse options available in geo domain content. Big perk = natural built-in audience ... both residential and commercial plus outside visitors. One is limited only by time and imagination.

Took Avondale Antonis, as its a city in Phoenix where I live. Out of NPS though...so the drinks on me if we ever do go for that domainer conference!!

Also moved onto D and took Dover.Tv - capital of delaware...only 38,000 pop, but swells to over 200,000 every year when NASCAR comes to town!!

excellent. dover = a good one!

So I am going to suggest that, going forward, I no longer accept NPs, just DDUs - "Domain Drinks Units" - LOL

start adding up the bar total...
