Hi,

Ive been thinking of getting a certain .us domain name. I have read numerous things saying i cannot buy one as im not a us resident. Is this correct?

You don't necessarily have to be a US resident. You can be a US citizen living abroad, or do legitimate business in the US. If you start a business in the US you may meet the requirements.

Just qualify yourself in the C3 category, and always use US nameservers and show intent to use for the US market. However, if you ever show any bad faith and point your site to an Al Quaida fan site, be prepared to be terminated.

It is against the policy, so there is some risk. Registering is probably not that bad, since you would likely only lose the name and reg fee in a nexus dispute. If someone had a UDRP claim, they would probably just file a nexus dispute instead since it would be a slam-dunk case.

The risk comes in developing the domain, Once you've put effort and money in development, you could lose it all without nexus, and give up everything you've worked for.
