I think it isn't worth to buy us.com/eu.com/de.com domain. Very little people pay attention on these domains. .us and eu will be better. (It seems that .eu is not available till now)

still worth jumping at any great key words you can find like forum and community. hold on to them for a few years, when the .coms go up and up people will be willing to put up with the added .xx if it saves them thousands.
