Sorry as well if this has been discussed before, but I could not find this exact problem anywhere.

I am building a site in a non-.com extension, let's call it MyPet.xx. I have bought some nice keyword related domains that I want to redirect to my site, for example dogs.xx, cats.xx and rabbits.xx.

From an SEO point of view, is it best to forward these domains to the homepage at MyPets.xx or more deeply to their respective sections such as mypets.xx/dogs, mypets.xx/cats and so on? Or maybe it doesn't make a big difference?

Thanks a lot!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Doesn't make a difference from an SEO point of view unless those domains had pre-existing backlinks (in which case, direct them to wherever the link juice will do the most good.)

If they're new domains, all you're capturing is type-in traffic, so from a visitor's point of view, I'd direct them the the relevant inner pages.

yeah, if you're just starting out, there would be no problems with regards to redirecting your other domains in your homepage.

Yes, I don't think the domains come with any backlinks, so should be okay to do it this way.

I don't recommend you to forward your site to the main site. Here is the reason:
1, your sites are small, even if forwarding them to the main page, it will help that much.
2, use a site to push a keyword is better than use a main site to push many keywords.

Thanks for the input, but I am not sure I follow you. Should I use dogs.xx, cats.xx and so on as separate sites instead of forwarding them to mypets.xx?

The problem is I would prefer to have just one site as it will be much easier to handle. And if I choose to use just one of the keyword sites, such as dogs.xx, it might not be suitable to have stuff about cats and other pets.

By the way, my site has nothing to do with animals, but I am getting into the jargon, so maybe I should change that

Well, redirects has it's own specific application and should not implement at other manners that would suspect it as for manipulation. make your site with comprehensive inner page sections which is more formal for people to see.

I would recommend using a permanent 301 redirect for your other domains.

Thanks to the last two posters for the input as well. I will go for the 301 redirect.

It would be relevant to direct visitors to the sub pages of your site.
