Upgrade vB

Maybe it's time to upgrade NamePros' vB version. I know it's old .

There are so many features that just aren't there. One being the ajax features. Anyways, it would be great if this could be done, although it's going to take a good bit of work.

It'd take more than a 'good bit' of work For one, there's no uShop compatible points/store hack for vB 3.6+, then there's the domain registration system, and many other modifications...

Is there a code change list like what is on phpBB? It tells you what to add/replace/etc. and you don't have to replace all the files and risk getting errors.

Sort of, except the vBulletin 3.0 tree to 3.5 was a major re-release of the software and this isn't an option.

We'll be doing a vBulleting upgrade someday. It might be when vB 4 is released.

What Ajax features do you like the most about the newer vB?

Only problem with the Ajax bits is that some users will have problems with them. Namely because it requires Javascript to be enabled and even in this day & age, some people still have it disabled.

Honestly I think the phrase "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" is relevant here. Maybe when VB4 comes out (a good year+ away) there may be a better reason to upgrade; but upgrading just for Ajax really seems pointless to me. :imho:

One good reason to upgrade would be no more hacking the core code (unless absolutely necc. :p ). 'Cause you'd be able to use the plugin/product system introduced in 3.5

Good point there! The vbhook system would be great for NamePros mass of customizations! It also means less work when doing future upgrades.

Looks like there is a good reason to upgrade for after all :hehe:
