Hello, I want to thank everyone here for all of the valuable information. I do have a question though...

In the recent past, through buying and selling, I have noticed that some of the main domain marketplaces seem a little out of date. I know that ebay does conduct domain name sales, but a specialized site complete with feedback, real time auctions, and a low escrow and selling fee seems to be needed.

I have software that can be modified for such a site, but I wanted to see what some of you seasoned domainers thought first.

I should also mention that I would like it to cost next to nothing to auction off the domains. Just in case that is a a point of contention.

Thank you

Jason

Great idea, as many are, but in practice it is hard to get many domainers to auctions.

This forum has over 30,000 members, over 1,000 active every day, but a heavily populated live auction here is around 100 members, and that's after years in existance and no fees whatsoever.

For more traditional sales, it's hard to compete with Sedo / Afternic / other established sites.

Not to dissuade you from trying, but just pointing out it will take thousands of $'s in promotion to get it popular, and lots of groundswell interest for it to take off.

I appreciate the advice. A current trend in the online marketplace is the specialized auction services but you make a good point. It would be hard to compete with the established services without significant competitive advantage which would be difficult to establish.

The trick is to have many end-users to become aware and visit the site ... without having too many "bad" domains overclogging the system ... easiness to search and navigate and safety for the transactions ...

all of these require a lot of money and a lot of work ... especially the attracting the wealthy buyers part ...
