Hi All,

I see some confusion about what DAN offers today and which steps are required to make DAN work for all domains. Please read our blog post for in-depth explanation about what DAN offers today, which minefields it has to navigate and where we're headed to: https://blog.undeveloped.com/a-big-leap-forward-3a3cc59ed418

Here's also a snapshot of a recent Q&A between me and OnlineDomain which sheds some light on what DAN can and can't do:

You say that domains managed in the DAN network are going to be transferred instantly. Will that only be true on the DAN registrar or on all registrars using your API?

Answer: For which domains we can offer 100% automated escrow always depends on third parties. For example .nl, .eu, .de transfers are done instantly and 100% automatically at DAN at the moment. For .comโ€™s itโ€™s more complicated due to the poorly designed policy that keeps the secondary market locked at the moment. When the domain sold itself can transfer freely, DAN can handle the transfers automated. If a domain is locked by the registrar, we have a fallback process in place and have automated the process to facilitate a domain push at the managing registrar.

Do you intent to circumvent ICANNโ€™s policy and the 60-day inter-registrar transfer lock? How?

Answer: Thereโ€™s a method that we tested which works to circumvent ICANN policy, however, we want to play the game nicely and so havenโ€™t implemented that method. In the coming time weโ€™ll organize talks with ICANN, if they want to hear us out to propose a new process for sellers. Currently, ICANN and registrars are holding our domains hostage and that has to stop. As a domain owner, you should at all times be able to unlock and transfer a domain. This is a simple but necessary feature to be introduced sooner than later. In our blog post I already shared best use cases of how non-ICANN aligned extensions have solved this issue and they are thriving. So all TLD operators should have a sense of urgency to change the old processes as the primary market has reached a certain cap in terms of growth, while the secondary market is becoming more often the primary market for the next generation businesses.

Amazon is offering a 2-hour delivery service for physical products, how come a digital product like domains cannot have the opportunity to navigate freely from one registrar & owner to another instantly?

------

Also, note that the new platform and the DAN bot just launched. We're still ironing out some remaining issues which are currently delaying some transactions.

Kind regards,

Reza

Dear @Reza, with all the comments and suggestions we all have towards you I think it's only fair to say BIG thanks to you & Undeveloped team. Thanks for trying to tackle some of the industry issues and to make a sales platform for domainers which creates certain level of competition to Sedo, GD, etc. Keep pushing hard!

Hi Daniel,

I appreciate the kind words!

Together we'll get there. Once the dust settles a little we'll create a campaign to start collecting votes from domain owners to demand some changes. If we bundle our forces, we can accomplish anything.

Check out this review from one of our sellers that manages a portfolio of domains that DAN can handle escrow for fully automated: https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/5d149c4f42fa560840465c45

Our goal is to introduce the exact same service level this seller gets to at least 90%-95% of our sellers.
Some things have to change for that to be possible, but as mentioned before, if we bundle our forces and make our demands heard, we can make it happen.

Kind regards,

Reza

Hi Mani,

Please contact our support :). sometimes payments are blocked by either our bank, the intermediary bank or the receiving bank. Our team can investigate and contact our bank to resolve this issue easily.

Kind regards,

Reza

I just read that posted TrustPilot review and noticed something interesting there:

"Btw, we use undeveloped.com / dan.com in the meantime as sole-seller/escrow-servies, and just stopped listing our portfolio(s) at other bigger domain-selling-platforms since transactions+invoicing+provided-data was a mess over and over again, without hope of change to the better after a decade+."

This particular seller says they stopped listing their domain names in other platforms besides dan.com
That is interesting point and perhaps something to consider -> motto: don't give buyer much of the choice to speculate with price tag.

I personally like it. Thanks for sharing that strategy.

Afternic has provided very poor support and 0 innovation and 0 fixing bugs.
+ a 1999 looking website.
All they have is a fast transfer network that might be coming from first movers advantage.
I don't think they deserve to rule in 2019.

@Reza consider to add an option to use own domain for portfolio showcase and efty might be out of game :xf.wink:

Afternic doesn't deserve that big fat chunky 20% commission.
What have they been doing with all that money?

Agree, Afternic sucks big time and their "so-called" synchro / synergy with GoDaddy doesn't work.

On the other hand what I like about DAN is that they actually improving in front of our eyes and they listen to our feedback. Each change doesn't take them fuc.... eternity to implement.

Bottom line is - we need modern, fast & fresh environment these days to be able to make a decent living with selling domains.

@Reza A registrar with very good interface for domain investors and very good prices.
Along with an established marketplace with low commission.
A bot that works with its own registrar to make our lives easier.
And most importantly a PRIME lander. (with recent live sales and total sales volume).
You'll get our support (exodus).

90% of my domains are registered with Godaddy, these above are the only thing that will make me move.
I don't care about buyers knowing Godaddy's name if your platform makes it clear it has trust, sales, and live buyer/seller activity around it.

I think Afternic/Godaddy doesnt give a damn because they are so big.

Example:

Two weeks ago I sold a domain on Afternic for mid $xxx. It was registered on NetSol but not fast transfer. It took a couple days for them to start anything on it, they asked for the transfer code, that took 7 days, then it took a couple more days to get paid. They even sent me an email saying it was paid, DAYS AFTER it was paid, like some kind of weird bot forgot to close the transaction.

Last night I sold another .com for $xxx on Sedo. Also reg on Netsol, not set for fast transfer (even though I could have set it up as Sedo/Netsol, Sedo FT is FAST !). Sedo sent me all the info but then told me their team would contact me as it was not FT. This morning Sedo notified me they were doing a PULL, so I would not have to get the transfer code. So I am just waiting for the pull message, which usually takes a couple hours. When Sedo confirms the pull, they will pay me. Sale to payment will likely be 24 hours or less.

That is how much Sedo improved because they know if they don't, they will lose.

Now DAN/Undeveloped is improving all the time because they too get it and know they have to do this to remain competitive.

Afternic/Godaddy can't be bothered and I doubt anything is going to change them UNLESS they start losing market share.

Even the Afternic website is outdated, functions or settings don't stick, it takes days to get email responses and sometimes if a transaction fails, it just goes into the ether with nobody from there contacting you until you escalate the problem.

Hi was mentioned earlier that we could choose not to have our sales published in the blockchain.

Where is the setting for that? Can't seem to find it in the obvious places in the control panel.

Also is this a global setting or per domain? I just want to be sure it is turned off for all my domains.

@Reza dan gives gateaway error

This is yet another one of these posts.
As a seller I find it very annoying to keep reading these reports which are vague and without any real proof. Can you please post the screenshot of what you're seeing and/or email undeveloped support about it if you're experiencing gateway issues so all sellers can benefit if indeed there's any issues.

Quick note:

All Godaddy transactions are delayed. We've tried everything and can't accept or push any domains since last night at Godaddy.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Many months ago I have asked via your LiveChat to add the possibilty to set USD/EUR currency per each domain individually... like on Sedo...
With you - currency can be set only per entire account (all listings).

The same regarding your escrow...
I can't start the escrow transaction in USD when my account setting is bound to EUR...
