.mobi UK Mailer to 3.2 million people

The UK News of the World sent out a mailer today with their Newspaper

Circulation figures
31 Mar 08 - 27 Apr 08: 3,192,419 (Source: ABC)

This is what was sent. On one side was the .co.uk website and on the reverse

Ws going to post in the general thead but some numpty is bound to say " yeah but the Uk population is only 60 million...big deal

It says, "or you can type 'newsoftheworld.mobi' into your phone’s browser to find it." No need to add www. :blink:

My original comment about not posting in the general forum was justified by the intelligent response from GE.

For non UK citizens I belive this is a major awareness boost for the .mobi. a circulation of over 3 million per week is pretty high . The NOTW is a tabloid and TBH is perfrectly geared towards mobile browsing. Why would I buy a newspaper to browse on the train when I can just look at it on my phone ?

i dont normally attack other posters for their comments as i think it is in poor taste to do so, but since you attacked me i will make an exception.

i get it that the importance of this thread is that mobi is being promoted to a huge population.

what you didn't get is that i am stating that this same site displays well despite the yardstick that most of us use. it has been designed well and will help promote itself and the mobi concept too.

in terms that you "might" be able to understand, " i am glad that mobi is being promoted to such a huge group. i am also glad that there may be a way to include tables in my designs if i had no alternative." thats it. nothing more, nothing less.

it's there GF, but you have to leave off the WWW. which is probably also why they got a lower score, since dev.mobi requires the domain to resolve to both.

Apologies. I did a search prior to responding on your previous posts and the first one that came up was the infamous mobi bashing "It's a re-direct". On further investigation it does appear you have a very positive attitude towards .mobi , so I apologise sincerely.

Your post coming so soon after another .mobi bashing comment pushed me over the edge as I just read it as a standard mobi hating post which I put my hands up and say I misinterpreted your post.

I am convinced of the validity of the .mobi and made a sale of $2k last week to an end user on a hand reg no landrush domain which is why I am fired up and defensive of the thread I started so again apologies.

im right in there with ya' as i have bet the farm on mobi.... (ie i support mobi both conceptually and financially)

congrats on the sale too...

i have development plans for all of my mobis but am just now learning to code. sort of like starting all over to learn mobi design. some of the biggest problems that i have had is learning to convert php scripts over to mobi when some scripts rely heavily upon tables. that was why i thought it so interesting that the NOTW site had still used tables. they probably should include the www. version as well so that they dont confuse the "WWW" diehards...

as an aside, i wonder why they didn't grab notw.mobi, or thenotw.mobi, or newsotw.mobi ??? just for the sake of an easy type-in? of course, if you have the means to promote it, they do, then i guess it is like saying i wonder why yahoo or google picked those names.... if ya' got the buck to promote, then call it whatever you want....
