U.S. Election Over: Now What for Candidate Domains?

During the campaign, my domain ObamaPresident[dot]org was blacklisted by Sedo. I then discovered (through this forum) that I could be walking a thin line by having ads on it, so I yanked them.

After Barack Obama won, my question was "Now what?" Do I allow the domain to expire? Do I sell it? Keep it?

I decided to keep it.

I started a countdown to the Inauguration and am going to try to post something daily until after January 20, 2009. After that? Perhaps weekly.

Not easy, I'm discovering.

I supported Obama, and right now, I'm an avid fan. However, Obama fan sites are a dime a dozen, many of them much better than mine.

But I think it's important to keep my eyes open and be prepared to take our new president to task when it's warranted. Otherwise, why maintain a site where I'll make no money?

I have a fairly decent domain and a great opportunity to do something that matters.

So what are the rest of you going to do with your old candidate sites, especially the McCain and Palin ones? (At least I have a "winner" site.)

I have UnitedStatesPresidentBarackObama.com. No idea what I will do with it. I'd like to develop it and follow his presidency day to day but "0" time to do so.

Don't bother with "made up" and/or "dated" political domain names - for instance, "Hillary2012.com" etc. - as most viable, reputable candidates already have their own respective FirstLast.com, IMHO. :music:

One could, as I have done successfully in the past (sorry, can't share the details!), register a future aspirant's FirstLast.com and hopefully they'll have the desire to acquire it from you in the future ... putting your own political opinions and "fan site" / non revenue-generating type content on it in the interim! :gl: :imho:

Always research potential ™ issues thoroughly beforehand, as well.

I believe dated domains in this nature are a bad idea but I could see the OP's domain developed into a site for the guy.

I own sarah-palin .com and use it as a 2012 pro-palin site. I've had some success so far. Average 1000-3000 hits a day and making a steady profit.

That is why I have SarahPalinSucks dot net and dot org. She is getting more press than Obama and Mccain combined after the election. And I do know who has the dot com... An avid fan of hers
