What causes people to type in the wrong spelling of a domain name?

Is it because they can't spell or is it because they hit the wrong letter on their keyboard?

Agreed, in both cases a neuron misfires: either the mind is wrong, or it fails to communicate to the fingers. In either case, we have "brain failure traffic arbitrage" ;)

Some of my common typos:

doamin (domain)
teh (the)

Going a bit too fast IMO.

In today's sped-up world, people are always in a hurry to do stuff. Given how much people use the computer nowadays, I figure most people type at a fairly decent speed (even older people here at my company that I figure would be slower typists do about 40-50 WPM). I myself type about 80-90 WPM when I'm really flying, and at that rate it's pretty easy to place a finger on the wrong key or too soon or whatever. I think my most notorious typo is than kyou...if I got a nickel for every time I've done that at the end of an email...

Oh yea, and a lot of people suck at spelling too. :)

I suffer from OCM. Obsessive compulsive multi-tasking... I usually have 4-9 tabs open at any given time and I flip back and forth so fast I often completely forget what I'm doing and where I am...

That and I also just type .ocm a lot more than .com :)

You can put me in that speling katagory, and also the fact my

Being a talented 80 WPM (about 70 after error corrections) "Hunt & Pecker", errors are an unfortunate occurence :|

Granted I'm typing so fast and only using 2 fingers, I often will press the key immediately adjacent to the key I intend to press, most often the one just to the right of it.

Sometimes, if I'm watching the news, listening to the radio, etc and I hear about something interesting, say, a new health discovery, I'll try and Google it up, or punch up the corresponding .com, knowing that I usually find good content there. Sometimes, even an educated person can't figure out how to properly spell a new buzz word (could you spell pomegranate 10 years ago?)

Same exact thing happens to me. I multi-task too much and typing .ocm happens more than it should. lol...

As the other people said, it's usually typing fast.
