Typodomain.com weird bidding?

First of all I'm not sure if it's ok or welcome to discuss ongoing auctions? I have left out the domain name just in case.
I was looking at some of the auctions that i'm part of on the drop sites, and i'm trying to analyse the bids. This one for "blablatypo.com" (i have removed the bidder names) seems really strange, because why would anyone bid this way when there's 2 days left? I mean make it jump 100$ in one go, seems stupid, but maybe i'm missing something. The price seems to be driven up way to fast and I can't see why any of the bidders are happy about that.

I'm trying to learn a bit here, so I think it would be interesting to hear why some a bidding so madly (maybe it's just mad to me since i'm a NOOB)

I call it "marking my territory" - trying to send a message that I will fight to a high price, so nickle and diming me up won't be worth another bidder's time or effort.

I don't bother with this against certain bidders - so I think it's obvious enough that the strategy worked for them

A good analogy is the world of Poker.

You come to a table limping in with bets whilst an agressive player at the table keeps raising and re-raising. He is attempting to stamp his authority and make you think twice about ever putting money on the table again!

yes its a minor slam-dunk to blow you out of the water...why should he make the other bidders happy? its a war...no prizes for coming second.
