Typo domains - How to know whether they are worth anything?

I recently let a Snapnames auction go for paciifcpoker.com - I bid up to $219, but the winning bid was $229.

"paciifc" gets 16,200 results in Google, paciifcpoker gets 69 - so it must be a fairly common typo.

Do you just have to take a chance on what the resulting traffic will be? Did I miss out on a good deal?!

I think that was a pretty good price for it. I don't concentrate on typos, but I have about 15-20 poker typos and a couple of loan typos.

Most of the time the typos that work contain extra letters, (i.e. pokmer, pokwer, pokler) .. but the next best thing is inverted letters, like this one. Also, a lot of poker websites advertise the .net as a "free to learn poker" website on TV. So, sometimes the .nets get just as much traffic.
Of course the success of any typo depends on the amount of OVT the root domain has with extension. In this case it's 4581 for pacificpoker.com. You could probably expect 2-3 pay clicks per month with that name based on my experience with similar typos. At Fabulous, that equates to around $20 a month. You can have better or worse months however. My highest pay for 1 poker click was $16.53.

For a comparison, look at the OVT for partypoker.com, it's 43332. Obviously, you could expect much more type-ins and typos of this one.

You are taking a chance when registering a typo, but they can pay off. Most of the better ones have been taken already, though.

Let me add a question to this thread if you don't mind.
We all know that the venetian is a very popular casino.
Now hypothetically, let's assume their homepage is venetiancasinohotel.com
Would a good typo to have be venetiancasimohotel.com or venetiancasnohotel.com? I ask because I found these scenarios on a casino and was sondering if I should register them. Thank youin advance. Kdiddy

The difference with these types of typos are that for the most part the poker websites don't have trademarks. For example pacificpoker and paradisepoker have no trademarks. I know PartyPoker is about the only one right now and they had trouble getting it, because "party poker" is considered a common term.

But in the case of the Venetian and other casinos, you better believe they have trademarks. In the case of the typo you mentioned, I think they could come after you pretty easily.

That's why you have to be very careful with your typo domains. Make sure you know what your risks are before regging or buying a typo domain.

Assuming that anyone who would be serious about buying the name bid at snapnanes the value of the name is going to be dictated by how much money you can earn (and keep) before you are forced to hand over the name to the owner of the name you are typosquatting on.

In some cases you'll hang on to the name for years. In others, you'll get hit with a law suit and end up paying them all your revenue and much more.

So if you're a gambling man with some great revenue generating poker content then it might be worth well more than $229 to grab the name make your money and dump it at the first sign of trouble. But if you don't have a way to make quick cash off a typo it's probably not worth much.

Wow Capiche

$16.53 for 1 click !! D-: I have just one poker typo of one of the companies you mentioned - the most I have ever had at sedo is 2 euros per click - the most it has made in a month is €10.78 it gets anywhere from 20 to 50 views pmth.

Does Fabulous have a limit to how many domains you can park there ?
ie - just one poker one in my case :hehe:

Do they currently or usually have PPC links for the companies stated above ?

Any further advice appreciated :)

Gazzip,

I only got a click that high once. Most of the time, the clicks are $6-7 dollars.

See this thread:
http://www.namepros.com/domain-name...poker-domains.html?highlight=park+poker+names

In one of my posts in that thread, I posted a screen shot of that click.

Most of the time, Fabulous wants you to have at least 100 domains. If most of your names are fairly generic, you'll probably get accepted. I have seen a lot of people not get accepted because almost all of their names are brandable and harder for Fabulous to monetize. And of course, they accept poker typos.

The PPC links on the Fabulous poker pages usually are for places like PartyPoker, PacificPoker, ParadisePoker, etc.

Also, see this:

http://www.pageseeker.com/bidlist/bidlist.htm?editcat=814

Those are the most current PPC bids for poker terms on Fabulous.

Hope this helps

Thanks alot Capiche - I suspect that could be a problem - I am currently parked at Sedo & Namedrive - another 1 may be too much hassle to manage ? :td: It would be nice if I could just park the Poker one there :hehe:

$6 a click is great though

Appreciate it :)
