What are your opinions regarding the .tv extension vs the .com?

Yes, I know most will say NO comparison, not now, or ever!

I know when you think of the Internet, you think .COM

I am just curious with what's going on with .TV and the future of
videos online, etc...My question really is HOW successful do you
believe .TV will become and why?

Thanks

Let me just preface this is not the break room or any of the other subforums Comments that are smart assed or flaming will just be deleted so don't even waste your typing.

The op already answered his question there is no comparing .tv and .com 0
.tv is an intuitive development based extension unless you own great .tv domains the dream of selling for xx,xxx to xxx,xxx is just that a dream.

You're right equity, it is a dream but I do say that it is a dream that is getting sweeter and sweeter as web and t.v converges and web videos become a more and more dominant and streamlined medium. What Demand Media is doing and has in mind will only continue to increase the value of .tv. .tv is not like the other extensions- it resonates with everyone across the world and as Web 2.0 meets Web 3.0 we will undoubtebly start seeing larger and larger sales. .tv will never overtake the .com but it and it alone funtions as the ultimate complement to it during our current "phase" of technological and social convergence. The big boy media companies are looking for new ways to advertise and to reach the public. I think we are at the cusp of a .tv revolution which aim is not to overtake .com but to complement it. Soon it will not be like comparing apples and oranges. For visoners/hopefuls like myself who has invested heavily in a handful of premium .tv names, the outlook looks good. For the rest of us who thinks that you just buy any .com equivalent of the name and cash in at xx,xxx+, you will be left with a bag of crap- and that will always be a tough sell.

Bill Gates says "the internet will revolutionize TV". I think its the other way around... the medium of television is revolutionizing the web. More. I think the internet IS tv (moniter+visual programming aka tv) growing up to be TV (full screen/moniter full motion viewer controlled programing).

One POSSIBLE web future:
In the coming years I expect domain extension content migrations will exhibit heightened herd behaviour patterns (.mobi for mobile content branding, ect.).

With the onslaught of video online, and even more Flash sites, the Text Purists will increasingly promote .com as the "classic web". While on the otherside folks like us, and much of the visual mass media, will continue to distingquish "TV" content sites with TV (media, movie, et al) somewhere in the domain. BTW, I'm not convinced the dot has to be before the TV in order to declare it has a TV site in the mind of potential viewers.

Over time this type of polarity marketing/branding will impress upon the mass-psyche that a .com is more likely to be a "classic web" content site and .TV a full media/TV site.
