Very interesting change on GoDaddy !

When you looked for a domain on GoDaddy, the extensions used to be in that order : .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .MOBI, .TV

I've noticed that they recently changed this order to .COM, .TV, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .MOBI

GoDaddy being the world's biggest registrar, this is an important little move that shows how hot .TV has become in recent times. It's also a great way to promote .TV even more as a major gTLD (and far from the little ccTLD it once used to be).

The same thing happened with .mobi a few months back - I think they just switch things up every so often to sell different tld's and get people to notice them. Not to rain on anyone's parade.... I have several decent .tv's and I hope it takes off big.

I would guess the promo is due to their database showing too many upcoming expirations for .TV and not many people re-newing/registering them. They had the same thing around December-February. I am pretty sure they will have it again for mobi somewhere in November-January 2008/2009.

PS. I have myself some good $$$$ in the TV.

Exactly -- they do this from time to time, particularly when they're running a sale on a particular extension, as they are right now with .TV. They've had .info in second place for a while, in front of .net, for example, and I truly doubt that it means anything in their idea of whether .info is more important than .net -- it's just because they've got .info sales going all the time.

So I wouldn't really read too much into it...although it's obviously nice for .TV while that particular order lasts.

They did this with .TV before...I think I posted about it, then in a blink of an eye .TV went from the second spot on the search page, to not even suggested. You actually had to type in .TV if you wanted to see availablity. Maybe a sale is lurking...

I am sensing a real shift. I am seeing tv everywhere and I deal with alot of media companies who have .tv websites.

TV is the new .com!!

Who knows, maybe in 5 years it will overtake it!!

I'm getting the feeling that interest in .TV is picking up a bit. If Godaddy would keep .TV in the number-two registration position, it could help accelerate awareness in the extension and it would be really cool.
