tricks to developing your domains

hi guys,
first cheers to all the NPer support in setting up namehugger.com. it seems like lots of NPers are using it - often to access longer URLs (like Moniker's Bulk Register, or Wordtracker's Keyword Tool) so i'll keep that in mind. I'm always interested in what people want there (so keep sending in URLs here or via PM).
:tu:

There seems to be a bunch of interest on NP lately in people wanting to quickly develop their domains. I've made a second list - for links to top website developing tools. it currently has links to things like wordpress, whypark, BANS, homestead, associate-o-matic, ppc-sites etc. it also has things like rss feed plugins and email list collection, cheap hosting, classified ad and shopping cart add-ons, seo tools, link lists, directories, and other basics you need to make a site. You can go there directly by going to namehugger.com/website-development but fastest of course is to use the blue link on the home page.

reading through the info in each link should serve as a tutorial for development newbies. for me it's a quick shortcut for tending my growing site garden!

I hope to make this a better resource again with your input. I thought I'd open this up to find out people's must-have website development sites.

To kick it off, my most used tools are

- wordpress of course, but most of all their plugin section, ie. the sitemap xml plugin, all-in-one-seo plugins and google analytics one go on every site
- all the major affiliate sites listed (but talk about low CTR!)
- the free stock image, font, and icon sites, plus photoshop to rejig these a bit.
- comment hunt for finding "do follow" linking sites
- jetspinner
- iwebtools (to check search engine position, without counting through 10 pages)

Yours?

Advice....

1. Create a favicon.ico (easist to use is dynamicdrive.com)
2. Tighten up the layout...it's a lot of scrolling and it appear disorganized

It's a nice concept though. Good luck.

easiest for me is to host a blog using blogger/blogspot.com as blog host, promote it by way of posting on it myself inviting other to comment and also submission of .xml feeds then i will do social bookmarking, submit it to different directories (phpld), post it on appropriate forum ad section, put it on sigs, post it on ad sites, post it on my blogs as well.

thanks for the advice labrocca, appreciate it + rep added!
weblord, i'd given up on blogspot because of design and domain name issues, but do like the one-click adsense part.
any other aspect of it particularly useful to you? i wonder how many use blogger vs. wordpress?

wordpress is great(assuming you mean the app you install, not wordpress.com) although you need to do a lot of customisation to avoid the search engines finding all the duplicate content wordpress creates. This is the main reason i'm writing my own skinable blog/news/forum/shop system so i can quickly knock out sites for all my domains.

Having said that, I imagine if you googled for it you could find a htaccess for wordpress to avoid duplicate content penalties - only reason im not going down that route is i'm using iis, have half of this app developed for other purposes already and dont particularly want to pay for the full version of the 3rd party .htaccess plugin for IIS at the moment.(isapi rewriter).

the design is highly customizable and i both take advantage of the customized domain and their domain as well for pr and backlink purposes.

A favicon is always a good tip. It gives trust to one website :)
