Transfer question

OK so the scenario is that i have a domain with registrar X which is going to expire today.

I wanted to transfer this domain to registrar Y (GoDaddy) who offer a free 1yr extension on all transfers.

I have initiated this a few moments ago but transfers can take longer than 1 day to complete, up to five i believe if GD's advice.

So if the transfer is not completed by the time the domain is set to expire, will it be transfered?

It is risky to transfer so late. What could happen at the worst is that the losing registrar might deny the transfer. But the domain should still be in the post-expiry grace period so you will still be able to renew it at the current registrar.

Thanks sdsinc, at worst i will loose the tranfer fee i suppose

I did not want to renew with the current registrar for a number of reasons and i figured transferring it may save me the hassle and cost of having to renew and transfer.

The domain has a "pendingtransfer" status at the current registrar while at GD it is awaiting the current registrars approval if that helps.

Just an update to everyone, the domain successfully transfered this morning and it is now set to expire at:

1/26/2008

Transfer and +1 year extension on expired domain: 6.95 :hehe:

I prefer to have complete control over my domains especially when it comes to renewals

It's not that i forgot to renew this one, it was given to me by Gene

Some registrars don't let to transfer domains which are about to expire with in 7 days. same thing happened to me too and finally i received happy news of "Transfer Completed" today.
