I'm trying to transfer out my domains from easyspace, but they ask for "administration fee of £49+vat".

I haven't heard of this kind of service anywhere on the internet. How can I jump this hurdle?

I think you will have to pay it. It was probably in the fine print that you agreed to when you reg'd the domain with them. It's sleazy as hell, but that's the way some companies operate.

OH NO!!!

One of my org.uk domains (and best ranked) expires at the end of this year.

Registered at Easyspace since 2002 paying only £4.95 in the 2 previous renewals, I received a reminder past december that only one year is left so I would be able to renew that domain for the "slightly increased small price" of £25

Keeping this in mind I was decided to transfer the domain to other registrar service, since there is no other registered at Easyspace.

Today I found someone asking for a co.uk domain at the "Domains for sale" forum and having some others co.uk I thought one of them can be sold because I'm trying to get rid of "articles" related names.

Then I remembered that I had not received the Nominet certified though it was registered past October... at Nominet I found that transfer processes cost £30

So now I'm not sure if Easyspace will charge £49 plus £30 charged by Nominet if I transfer the org.uk

What a mess!!!!

Shall I also comment that Easyspace even don't mention the fee on the Transfer page: Just "Fill in your credit card details".
Arrogant and irritating.

Uber low registration prices often comes with uber high renewal/transfer price*

*Except for Register.com, they charge darn high reg/transfer/renewal fees.

Just had exactly the same problem with moving a .com out of Easyspace. Get it moved out and do a chargeback on your CC.

Double true, is not surprise that way and not fine print ever at Easyspace.

In fact it was a surprise to me find that the company was sold relatively recently, probably by the time when the functionality of the control panel and the lack of opportune support started to arise.

And the worst is when the domain to be renewed or transferred is part of a closer person's identity... I cannot simply let it expire :'(

Bearing in mind the personalized related name, the number one in performance among my domains, the best ranking at Google, and the extremely well linked it is, according the British Silktide Sitescore site, it may worth to pay, but painful though

Additionaly, I found that Amazon has listed that particular site with an ASIN number and, the name is returned as part of Amazon search results

ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. Almost every product on our site has its own ASIN--a unique code we use to identify it. For books, the ASIN is the same as the ISBN number, but for all other products a new ASIN is created when the item is uploaded to our catalogue.
I guess that is good, but not Easyspace :]

It's a never ending story with them. The other day I've got a refund which didn't cover their "mistakes".

Yup. Another way to put it. "The large print giveth and the fine print taketh away".

This is also why you should never reg domains with a hosting company, even if they claim it's "free". Hosts seem to engage in this type of crap a lot. If you ever leave them and want to take your domain with you, they will hold it ransom for $XX or even $XXX. You don't technically own the domain as far as they are concerned. They just register it for you and let you use it.

Never reg domains from a host and never expect anything great from a SUPER cheap reg.

I could write a book about the problems/no existant support I had from Easyspace and I don't even use them. A client had their domain/hosting there. He moved his hosting over to me and ask me to move the domain to Namecheap. In short it took me a month to get the domain away from Easyspace and into NC and for the whole of this month the clients site was unaccessible. As soon as the domain was @ NC the site was back online.

Get the domain out of Easyspace as soon as you can, but its not going to be easy!

Over time you can see Easyspace's dirty game.

My first contact with them was in 1999 getting free hosting, so one fine day I received the "exclusive" only-members offer to get the org.uk at the lower price of £4.99, which I took.

Once there I found no ability to make DNS changes and I had to pay other £11 to gain it

While I didn't change the nameservers no major issues with support until I moved the site to Servage, which requires 4 nameservers instead of the two available at Easyspace's control panel.

Though I tried to introduce only 2 of them, no modification was possible; this happened when the change of layout (and owners) came accross several months ago.

After open a support ticket, it took around 3 weeks before they completed the DNS changes because I was never able to do it myself.

The only good thing about my particular case, is that Easyspace never saved my CC information so I have never received non authorised charges.

I had exactly the same problem, with the DNS. Like I said above it lead to a clients site being down for 1 whole MONTH. As soon as the domain was out of Easyspace and @ Namecheap this site was online in seconds!

I tried to transfer the domain out about 10 times and each time Easyspace rejected the transfer. I had to submit a support ticket which took 1 week to be answered before I finally got it moved!
