Transfer of EU domain ownership

I had an offer on a domain registered at internet.bs
So I asked internet.bs about their transfer process

This was the reply
" The TRADE is not yet implemented, I am unsure the Registry is already
accepting TRADEs. It is a manual operation which has to be checked by the
Registry, so I guess they will not be able to to it before end of their
vacations.
Also they charge the same fees as a domain creation.
If the new owner is not an Internet.bs Corp. customer, the TRADE has to be
started by the new Registrar.

PS: sorry for not to be very specific but the TRADE is a new concept
introduced by EURid and we have no experience with this. The only thing
absolutely sure about the TRADE is that the Registry is charging the same
fees as a new domain creation."

I take this to mean that nothing will happen until the easter holidays are over and that the cost will be at least 11 euros and that nobody is sure how it works.

This is worrying. Has anyone successfully transfered an eu domain yet?

I came across the following when I was reading through some of their terms for regisrars. The bold bit below also looks worrying - unless I am misunderstanding it ?? :-/

11 EURid Registrar Agreement (amended) Sample only
Exhibit 1 - Registration and renewal fees that apply on signing the agreement

1. The fee for the registration of a Domain Name is 10 EUR (excl. VAT) at the time of the signature of this agreement between EURid and the Registrar. This fee includes the licence to use the Domain Name for a 1 year period after the registration.

2. The renewal fee for the licence of a Domain Name is 10 EUR (excl. VAT) at the time of the signature of this agreement between EURid and the Registrar.

3. The fee for the transfer of Domain Names by EURid upon demand of the Registrar is 0.25 EUR (excl. VAT) per Domain Name with a minimum amount of 500 EUR (excl. VAT) per requested transaction.

4. The fee for the re-activation of a Domain Name that was put in “QUARANTINE” status is 20 EUR (excl. VAT). Domain names in “QUARANTINE” status can be re-activated during a period of 40 days following their deletion.

I take this to mean that EURid will charge 0.25 Euro/domain, the miniumum being 500 Euro, in other words the registras will have to apply in batches of 125 domains for changes.

This could mean you may have to wait months until the required 125 is reached.

Or am I reading this wrong.

Per my calculation, it'd be batches of 2000 domains...!!

Now, THIS is something that can kill the .eu resale market. Much like the .uk but to a higher degree.

Always clinging to the "ways of the past" and the ever-present stupid beaurocratic ways have been suffocating business innovation and advancement in Europe for ever.

That is perhaps the most important aspect of any .eu domain registration - the registrant technically does not own the domain but rather owns the licence to use that domain.

The transfer idea seems to be based on how ccTLDs tend to do things in Europe. Since a transferred domain is effectively a new contract with the registry, EUrid wants its cut for making the trade. It sounds like the whole .eu registry system is a mickey mouse operation set up on something like Microsoft Access by people who only read a Dummies' Guide To gTLD Registry Operations.

A license is what you buy with any domain... they grant you a paid right to it... it is no different for the .EU than the .COM, it's all licensing. ----- Just to clear the directly above message up :)

I think it's pretty bad this system... but I hope it causes many people to drop their names that they stole at landrush. :hehe:

Just bought an eu from an auction here. Transfered it through godaddy. Took 2 minutes and no charge. Credit to godaddy after all the recent complaints.

But I just tried to change the owners name to my name. This is the result.

No updates were made

Reason: Items with these TLDs do not support changes to the registrant's First Name, Last Name, or Organization. Please use the domain registrant's existing First Name, Last Name and Organization.
