Traffic Spike - Thanks to a weird Craigslist Posting

So. A few days ago I noticed that one of my domain names which normally gets a few unique visitors a day, was getting several hundred all of the sudden. I moved it from Fabulous to Parked to see if it would perform better. (as, lots of traffic, no CTR).

The domain name is food related but got one click for "jobs". I did some homework and came across a craigslist post, advertising jobs available at my domain name.....

I altered the keywords to Jobs and now the CTR is decent and im still getting 100+ unique visitors per day with about a 10% CTR....

Bizarre, no?

sure is, but as long as you are reaping the benefits, might as well make the most of it huh?.

You should count your blessings that the post hasn't gotten flagged for leading to a parked page. Normally CLers flag posts super quick.

Its not a link, its just the domain name, so the people are forced to copy and paste. But your right, im surprised they hadnt flagged the post.

but it's perfectly legal to advertise developed sites on craigslist?

usually links in posts get flagged. It depends on how authentic the post is and how the CL community reacts to it.

Isn't this incredibly evil or something?

I bet someone typed the wrong domain and got yours.

I had one like this - except it was from a job website, and the webmaster meant to put .org, but listed the domain as .com instead, which I own. It led to a spike in traffic, and a little revenue, but it only lasted as long as the job posting.
