All credit for this find goes to Arnie, who suggested that this may be worth a separate thread earlier today here. You can (and should, lest he carries out his scariest threat) add rep for him from the former link.

TheTimes.mobi now provides tailored content for mobile/cell phones. It does not redirect.

TheTimes.mobi can only be used from a cellphone for now, and OP could not locate an associated press release – hence the project may not be officially finished yet.

At the risk of being premature in doing so, OP calls this one a win for .mobi :)

This is what Wikipedia has to say about The Times in its current article summary:
==============

Founded: 1785
Political allegiance: Centre

The Times is a national newspaper published daily in the United Kingdom (and the Kingdom of Great Britain before the United Kingdom existed) since 1788 when it was known as The Daily Universal Register. For much of its history, The Times has been regarded as Britain's newspaper of record. It has played an influential role in politics and shaping public opinion about foreign events.

With its sister paper The Sunday Times, The Times is published by Times Newspapers Limited, a subsidiary of News International, itself wholly owned by the News Corporation group, headed by Rupert Murdoch. Though traditionally a moderately centre-right newspaper and a supporter of the Conservatives, it supported the Labour party in the 2001 and 2005 general elections,[1] after Murdoch allied himself with Tony Blair.[2]

The Times is the original "Times" newspaper, lending its name to many other papers around the world, such as The New York Times, The Times of India, and The Irish Times. It is the originator of the ubiquitous Times Roman typeface, originally developed by Stanley Morison of The Times in collaboration with the Monotype Corporation for its legibility in low-tech printing.

The newspaper was printed in broadsheet format for 200 years, but switched to compact size in 2004, in an attempt to appeal to younger readers.[3] In May 2006, it announced plans to launch a United States edition;[3] it began publishing on June 6, 2006.

In November 2006 The Times began printing headlines in its new font, Times Modern.

if the trend continues at this rate, pretty soon all newspapers wil have their .mobi sites up and running.

that should finally cause some maistream exposure and maybe even prompt the registry to come out with the long waited press release.

can't wait for The Times press release first though.. :imho:

What can I say 'trix, except thank you for this excellent archive copy - complete with some (IMHO) apt and inspirational introductory sentences in the third column (Page 1, top center). Mobi relevant? You decide.

Yes MC, it seems some things never change;fundamental nature of how things are?. This must be that. I'm gonna attempt at transcribing it below. This is from the founder of this paper 222 years ago. January 1st, 1785

< To the Public>

To bring out a New Paper at present day;written so many others are already established and confirmed in the public opinion, is certainly an arduous undertaking; and no one can be more fully aware of its difficulties than I am: I , nevertheless, entertain very sanguine hope, that the nature of the plan on which this paper will be conducted; will endure it a moderate fanfare at least of public favor; But my pretensions to encouragement, however strong they may appear in my own eyes, must be tried before a tribunal not liable to be blinded by self-opinion; to that tribunal I shall now, as I am bound to do, submit these pretensions with difference, and the public will judge whether they are well or ill founded.

It is very far from my intention to detract from the acknowledged merit of the Daily Papers now in existence......
