Trademarked .TIPS?

So I was hand-regging domains today and decided to register some .TIPS. I found this one word.TIPS domain that was available for registry on GoDaddy and it took me to a page that showed 3 different companies that had the word trademarked. Could they sue me or remove the domain from my account if I registered it?

My question: Should I register the .TIPS domain or avoid it and why?
Does that also mean I can't register other new gTLD's with that word in it? It's a one word dictionary word.

Thanks

With out knowing the word it is tough to say. But three trademarks could mean very limited use.

I would avoid parking this type of name because the ads will probably infringe on a TM.

There will be many opportunities to get a really good gTDL.

Are you planning to build your own website on it? Or are you planning to reg it because you think you can resell it back to someone else?

As J3r3myist's acting* online legal counsel, I'm going to advise that he not answer that question. Also I will ask that you refrain from using that line of questioning.

I'm just planning on regging it to resell it. #Domainerlife

With all of the names out there, why bother wasting your money/time registering a name that has limited development potential and could be taken away from you because of Trademark issues?

Just to make a quick buck? Not worth it in my opinion.

I am a trademark law expert to some good extent, but cannot answer your question unless I know the words / marks in question.

The word is "Vital"

Noooooooooooo!!!!

Don't disclose the name, that's a special invitation for unscrupulous, cutthroat domainers to snatch it right up and then it's ADIOS domain name.

On the upside, if they don't, then you'll get your answer as to whether it's a "premium" gTLD.

It's a generic word and no exclusive rights can exist for it so you can register it.

Don't listen to this. If you see there is existing trademarks just look at the products and services listed in each TM and then decide if you may infringe. It's also tough selling TM'd names.

There are new gtld's rolling out every couple weeks you'll have tonnes of opportunity to get non TM keywords.

.menu rolled out today.

Just Google "Canyon.bike."

The gTLD does matter.

I don't foresee you having a problem unless you ran ads competing with the TM holders' goods and services. I think it's too vague a term for the extension and would suggest going with another name.

With these new extensions, what comes after the dot is going to define what comes before it.

While vital by itself is trademarked, it's for stuff like:
Animal feed supplements
Computer hardware for use in motorized vehicles

Don't think you would be talking about that on a vital tips site.

vital tips, the phrase itself isn't trademarked.

It's like with the canyon.bikes example. It's what's on both sides of the dot.

I'm imagining there's going to be all kinds of issues with some of these like .today. today is usually a word that comes after another word and usually a brand. (keyword)today.com type of thing.

Not a lawyer, but I don't see any infringement with this one. If there was some known Vital Tips site out there with that phrase trademarked or some kind of use, then maybe.

thank you all, I am now the owner of Vital.tips. Hope to develop it or resell in the near future. Hope I won't run into TM problems

Congratulations! That's a heck of a lot better price you paid than I paid (and optionally continually pay) for life.tips and helpful.tips.

I hope my private email helped.
