USPTO.gov is good. You can Google to find similar sites for other countries.
Anybody can start a WIPO/UDRP action against any domain at any time. Although this is rare.
The best answer IMHO is stick to lower cost domains. It costs $1500 plus at least $5000 for the lawyer to challenge a domain. Not only is there less to lose with lower cost domains, the other side has less to gain. With good lower cost domains the ROI is higher also.
