Tracking down someone by their email address

I got ripped off by someone not too long ago (not domain related) - sent some paypal funds and... never saw them again.

I searched for them extensively with all the clues I had and all I have about them is their email address. Is there a way I can track down IP or location or hell, phone number would be great, for this person just from having their email address?

I also wouldn't be opposed to more lethal methods of retaliation if anyone catches my drift. Please let me know what I can do, i want my money back, I want this person to get a little punishment.... etc. Don't want to wait 8 billion years for a paypal resolution.

Thanks in advance,
John

goto google.com type there email address in full and see what you get. You might get some websites they are members of, and maybe get a full name?

There is no one way to catch someone. Some people will have a ton of information online, some will have none. If you posted the info that you have here, maybe people could help.

Ips aren't too useful. I mean, you might be able to figure out a city, but that's about it.

Depends on the email address. Is it from a free email provider, the user's ISP, the company they work for, or from a domain they own? Free email providers are the worst at finding information from of course.

If the person has a PayPal business or premier account then you can find out more information about them like a phone number or often a different 'customer service' email address. To view this information, start the process like you're going to send them money again. Enter an amount and reason. On the next page, you'll have a link that you can click on to view more information about the seller and see how long they've been a PayPal member, etc.

(Of course, DON'T complete the transaction! :))

Thanks for the advice RJ, axilant, etc!! I can't believe how dumb I was, his paypal account is unverified. I think I need more sleep before I get into paypal!

Did submit it to the paypal resolution center, we'll see. Thanks again,
John
