Hi

I've compiled a few top 10 lists over sales in 2005 sorted by domain extensions now.
Sources: Dnjournal.com, Afternic sold names list, SEDO, our own Namepros, and a few other articles here and there..
Had to manually go through all of the DNJournal archives and the Afternic sold domains list to find most of the ccTLD sales, so it's taken a while to compile it..

The lists are in no way complete, so please post here or PM me if you know of any other sales in 2005 that should have been on any of the lists.
I hope (and believe) that the lists can be a good indication of the value of each TLD and ccTLD...

The text is in Norwegian, but I believe you should be able to understand the important parts.. :)

Here we go:

Enjoy.. :D

Great work redleg. Rep added.

Interesting to note not one single domain with a dash in it, and also the healthy .co.uk prices. One of my .cc sales should be on that list - private sale though so you'd never have known - lol ;)

Very interesting.
You should have mentioned business.us although the exact price is not known I believe.

Thanks for the compilation, Red ... though I wish there was some way to get some independent, third-party transactional verification / professional certification on each of these "sales", IMHO. There is no source that I am aware that delves into the actual accounting, funds transfers, potential relationships to/between parties, data, etc. ... which, in my humble view, leaves us domainers open to potential manipulation (as we've been reading a lot about, of late). :gl: :|

(1) For the none $ sales, how did you calculate the $value, ie, based on exchange rate at time of sale?

(2) What do the ones where the marketplace is in blue represent?

Thanks!

#1 : Most of the prices have been taken from DNJournal, and calculated from Euro to USD at the time of sale.

#2 : Just some random links to SEDO and Afternic.. :)

Close.. :)
(Hint: just a tiny bit north of Denmark.. ;) )

You should have mentioned business.us although the exact price is not known I believe.
I was thinking about adding it, but as you say; the sale is protected by an NDA so the price hasn't been made public...

One of my .cc sales should be on that list - private sale though so you'd never have known - lol
As I said; feel free to PM me or post here if you know of any sales that should have been on those lists..

any info on .hk sales?
Green.hk was sold for $3,000 at SEDO in august.
That's the only .hk sales I've found any info on, but I'll add it to the list as well now.

Glad to hear that you like the lists, it took me a few hours to compile them...

.hk hardly sells more than reg fee.. nowadays.

Why?
Doesn't it depend on whether:
1) the company using the domain wants to signal .hk or .cn?
2) Using Chinese-based search engines, .cn gets priority?

Not sure about that, I just turned down a 1,500 dollar offer on a .hk

I am now studying in Computer Discipline in an University in Hong Kong, lots of students here do not know .hk ever existed. (Surprised? Yahoo HK: hk.yahoo.com Google? www.google.com, sina? what the hell is it?)
2. Sorry, no. Even baidu, baidu won't grant you any advantages in so.

People in Hong Kong won't bother to get a good name with a specified extension. They even try to buy another extension to stand out from their competitors, like .LA, .TV, .BIZ and .CC extra. (and some prefer .pk - I think you should know what it means in Hong Kong) Like the Sun newspaper in Hong Kong - they just gone for another domain as the original occupied. If they want the name, they try to buy another extensions.

If you ever look at some local auction sites, people never bid on the domains even though they are cheaper than reg fee :).
