Want to get some thoughts and opinions.

Registering .mobi for the sake of registering .mobi and then rushing it to market for sale as purely a domain name for sale seems it would do more harm than good...or would it.

If there were numerous .mobi's for sale on multiple sites rather than just these domain forums, then this would bring notice to the extension. Having .mobi or any domain for that matter listed purely for the sake of domainers is akin to beating a dead horse. We all know about it.

At the same time, if every one is selling a mobi, is that cluttering the market thereby diminishing the value and worth of it if laymen see so much of it?

Quality speaks for itself but is too much at one time...good or bad for the .mobi market?

And outside of these forums, where would you think, as domainers, is the best place to promote, educate, and advertise .mobi to the masses.

Approach this from not just a domainer's point of view but as a consumer and a marketing standpoint.

Sure it is not good to have all the domainers with the decent names if they don't plan on devloping. People are in this for the money, not for the extension. That is just the way it is.

Funny thing is, I see people registering names everyday, asking for appraisals and putting their names in the marketplace  So I'm sure we will see the trend continue for sometime.

I don't think it is going to make or break .mobi, but it can't possibly help.

I dont see it hurting .mobi right now. There are 10s of millions of .coms regged and only 400k mobis. Surely there are still good names to be regged. Any good reg. will be great for the ext. if developed. %%-

Look at sex.com...

A whole bunch of newbies registered pretty much every number from 1 to 1000 as a suffix i.e. sex1.com, sex2.com,... hoping that someone would presumably pay them large sums of money also -- no offense intended to those who registered their name for a more reasonable purpose. All this hasn't hurt sex.com's value however... As long as the main keywords end up mostly in enduser's hands, I would imagine dotmobi will do alright. However, should they all be gobbled up by speculators, it certainly does make an extension less desirable.

My apologies to those who find my choice of names inappropriate. Granted it's the most a name has sold for to date, I believe it would be acceptable to make such a reference.

For now, since the .mobi registry still holds a large number of generics, it greatly reduces the detrimental pricing effects from domainer speculation.

Yes, I believe this was a VERY smart move on their part to greatly increase the likelihood that their extensions isn't what so many have become lately...
