To those who wonder why we don't like political threads here at NP, I wish I could show you the number of emails and messages I've received lately from members who are upset about it. Very few topics bring out emotions in the way politics does. Very few topics create such a divide amongst members. Heck, even me... if I posted my own personal feelings about this election and the parties involved... it would almost surely cause hard feelings among people I consider friends. Anyway...

This will be the one-and-only (OFFICIAL) thread on tonight's VP debate. Post away and enjoy it.

I am an Obama supporter. I've researched both sides. I've listened to debates, and will be listening to the next two. There's nothing McCain can do or say to change my vote.

It seems to have already been brought up in this thread (McCain being a POW) - that seems to be what a lot of people are using to try and justify him becoming president.

Sorry to say, but him being in the military and a POW does not make him qualified to be president - I respect him for his service, yes, but he does not get my vote because of it.

I, like many others, are not willing to have another 4 years of Bush. Our economy is in shambles. Why? Because of Bush and his fellow republicans. Honestly, do we need another??

On another note, all this crap about Obama being muslim... he's not! He's Christian. Even if he was, so what! You need to look past his religion and race and look at the MAN.

Just like McCain - look past his 'pretty' wife and vp running mate! Look past him being a POW. Once you do, you'll find all his LIES and will find that he won't be any good for our country. I think people are afraid to see him for who he really is.

On a final note. There's also talk about Obama not having his hand over his heart -- that image/video you see is to the National Anthem, where placing ones hand over the heart IS NOT REQUIRED! It's only required with the pledge of Allegiance.

It's not required on either....just expected. At Kentucky football games they play "My Old Kentucky Home" and some people even put their hands over their hearts for that and cry.

A little note here...

I respect everyone's opinion but have my own and love my country.

I've been watching this thread closely the last day or two, and I knew Debaclex was being sarcastic right away. He's a hardcore Obama supporter from what I can tell! It's nice to see DNpres, .x., Isis, Jason and the whole gang joking around a bit and actually talking and taking a look at the other side.. It was getting pretty heated in here for a while. :gl:

Afterall, we are all on the same page with the thought that things must change in America. It is ultimately up to us to pressure our elected local and national officials to stop acting in corporate interest and take a look at the big picture. We must put pressure on these people somehow and with all of the screwed up things going on in our country right now I think (and pray) we will witness an enlightenment by our elected officials. Will it be possible for them to stop acting in the best interest of people padding their wallets or people that elected them into their office!? Only time will tell...

I saw Obama speak on his drug using issues. and i will say this, he did not pull any punches, I totally respect that, he was very open and cooperative with media questions, and just told the truth.

I don't use any thing but weed. absolutely nothing else, I am not saying you are implying that, i am just putting it on the record.

I dooonnnn no, I mean, as we grow up, we experiment with stuff, and that is pretty much human nature i think.

He admitted to using cocaine, I wouldn't see why he wouldn't admit to using heroin if he had done it.

either way, i don't see it playing a role in what he is today.

What i am finding a bit disturbing, Is people saying in this thread, If he gets elected, he wont be in office long. that is very disturbing, and that is not what this country stands for.

should Obama be elected, we have to support him, Democrat and Republicans alike. We have to support our President, Chief and commander of our country. we don't have to agree with everything, but support of our President is our Patriotic duty as Americans, Imo

big claims, little evidence. everything i've read from your post can be found on anti islamic sites or the Fox network....

You mention the images you saw on Al-Jazeera of the victims of American bombings in Iraq, which obviously are shocking and intolerable, but you don’t mention the images in Al-Jazeera or in some other news channels of the thousands of Muslims who partied and danced in the streets through out the Middle east or Africa to celebrate the 9/11 carnage.

to be honest, i didn't see that on al jazeera but i did see a few clips of that on American news media.

but in retrospect little or no coverage was given on the hundreds of Muslims that came out against 9/11....books, dvds, audio came out against terrorists and 9/11...but media ignored it.

but lets say for the moment you are right, lets say a few hundred people danced on the street after 9/11...look at what the American reaction was...and look at the aftermath of the anger and revenge. Has there been enough blood spilled to make up for the deaths on 9/11? how many Muslims not related to the 19 that committed the act have to die before you feel avenged?

You say that Muslims are for religious tolerance, and yet so many preach hatred and world domination in the place of love, and slavery in the place of freedom. Need proof? Don't be fooled by these people and think this is what Islam is....if you want to know what Islam is all about, ask people like me...or go to a local masjid (mosque), ask questions, and interact with the people...you'll be surprised to find that they are very tolerant and peaceful people....the kind of people you don't see or hear on on the news.

have you ever listened to a live Muslim 'khutba' or lecture? i've been to many lectures and i have never ever heard a 'violent' or 'hatred' filled speech.....tell me the last lecture you heard that was 'violent'.

Why is the Bible banned in so many Arab Countries. Owning a Bible can get you killed, arrested, or deported. In Saudi Arabia, they burn discovered Bibles. Christians are not free to practice their religion. Jews are banned completely.

As for Saudi Arabia, it ruled by an extremist sect, a sect that is backed 100% by the US. Heck, I wouldn't even live in Saudi Arabia as it exists today.....

How about the intolerance of the Taliban when they destroyed the centuries old Buddha statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan? Why was there no outcry from the Muslims?

I didn’t see any Islamic tolerance in Holland when Theo Van Gogh was killed by a Muslim for making the movie 'Submission'.

Christians, Jews, and Buddhists don't lash out in fanatical and homicidal attacks when their religion is insulted. They don't call for jihad. If they did, thousands of Muslims would be dead in Europe and America.

In Palestinian territories churches and Jewish holy sites are desecrated. The Christian population in Palestinian-controlled territories is dwindling to nothing. Where is the beneficial face of Islam?

I think it’s time for Muslims to start reflecting, looking inwards and start realizing that you are not all angels. You have a lot of fanatics in Islam who are the main source of conflicts between Islam and other religions.

It is amazing how this thread has morphed back to Obama and the Muslim rumor.

The one thing that I would prefer to have is this: If the Democratrs control congress, then I want a republican President. If the republicans control congress, then I want a democrat President. This doesn't really follow my moderately conservative principles on the surface, but as I think we can see from the past 30 years, whenever one party controls the whole enchilada, it's just too easy for them to spend money. At least this way they have to argue about which pork to buy.

I would gladly see Obama in as president, if the republicans could control congress, the faster we minimize Pelosi's impact on America, the better it is for everyone.
