Same thing happened in Canada during the Conservative era with a 35% increase in Chinese students in one year. Harper Conservatives also allowed China to invest more in Canada's resources.

Trudeau significantly rolled back Harper era policies, placing restrictions on foreign investment in Canada. Justin teamed with Biden-era policy imposing stiff tariffs on Chinese imports. Carney has had to deal cautiously with China, especially in critical sectors like AI and security, but due to Trump's attacks on the Canadian economy has had to make some concessions and allowances, such as allowing a limited amount of electric vehicles in exchange for agricultural trade.

I suspect that Trump will kowtow to Xi, allowing more Chinese investment in US industry and manufacturing. He'll sell out US interests for a personal stake in the game and frame it as a win.

Trumpers in this thread have been blasting Canada, calling it Chinada, blah, blah. They're simply uninformed.

In fact, USA does more trade with China than Canada does, in absolute terms and as a percentage of total trade.

Why then does Trump want more Chinese investment in US manufacturing? Who owns most US debt? Japan and Mainland China. (Japan overtook China in 2019)

I suspect the reason they do so is because Canada has universal health care (with higher life expectancy), similar to Europe and every other developed nation in the world except USA. BTW, USA has a life expectancy comparable to Iran, depending on your source of information and in some cases much lower (by as much as 10 years).

The disparity is even clearer when comparing blue states to red states. Blue states have the highest life expectancy, while red states have the lowest. Even in Texas, mothers must carry dead fetuses to term which seems abominable to me. Many mothers have died on account of it.

When Trump first ran for election in 2016, I thought here's a guy who will stand up against China. Having lived in China, I know what what it's all about. Then, after the election and in years following (especially 2.0), it was clear he was undermining democracy.
